hydro nutes at Bunnings...

Recommended Posts

browsing through a different Bunnings store today than the one I usually go to and noticed they had "Manutec" hydro nutes. They also had Manutec Bloom Booster, and while the packet didn't say it was for hydroponic use, it said it was water soluble. And then they had all sorts of other ferts that were water soluble.

Am I correct in assuming that as long as ferts are water soluble they are OK to use in a hydroponic system?

Heya pipeman, the Manutec nutes were the first ones I used when I got into hydroponics for vegetable production. I was on a budget, saw the Manutec "Hydroponic Nutrient" at bunnings just like you and went, "hey, I'll give it a go!" I was very happy with my purchase, and used it for a year or so until my financial situation changed and I went with liquid nutes from my local hydro shop. This doesn't mean these aren't good nutrients though, I used just the "Hydroponic Nutrient" through the life of my cherry tomato plants. Two plants in one foam esky with perlite. They ended up growing to 3 and a half meters tall and 2 and a half wide. We were harvesting from the start of spring to mid-summer! I planted them in the middle of winter, and we gave away so many tomatoes that I haven't the slightest idea how much the eventual yeild was. Maybe next time I'll do a successive weigh in....

anyway....

The nutes in the Hydroponic Nutrient" come in a two part form, one with pellets of calcium nitrate, the other with everything else in a fine powder. Now the powder nutes dissolve fairly easily, with a short stir in a standard 10l watering can. But the Calcium Nitrate pellets take a little crushing before they fully dissolve. Make sure you do crush it in the can or res or whatever too because if you don't you may end up with an uneven nute profile. Anyway, I also did an experiment where I took the powder and pellets, then I put each one at the correct rates in 1L bottles. When I filled up with water (ph corrected water! 5.5-6.0) I could then use even amounts of A + B to make my nutrient solution! No crushing or weighing of powder and pellet, only the easy liquid A+B form, and at a much cheaper price.

The blossom booster, while never actually using it myself, has recieved good reviews from "Kog", a writer of an outdoor marijuana growing guide. He produced moster mullies on his farm with these nutes, and he recommends them emphatically. For indoors, go with the "Hydroponic Nutrient", because that has a more Veg-like nutrient profile. Then move to blossom booster soon after turning down the lights to 12/12

I've used them in the past, and I'll use Manutec nutes and additives in the future.....

Hope this helps

peace B)

I have the Manutec Hydroponic Nutrient and Bloom Booster. I haven't used the Hydroponic Nutrient with my hydro, I am using Yates Thrive as the veging nutrient. This is working better than I thought, as I wasn't sure if it would be okay as nutrient. So far my plants havent shown any deficiencies and are growing at an amazing rate (they're on their 3rd node in just over a week). But I am using Bloom booster on my plants that are flowering and it works really well. The buds are tightening up and becoming nice and thick...

I think the problem with manutec is that its not buffered, ok for flood an drain systems, but no good for resevoir system because ph is to outa whack :D

I may be corrected but I think that the little extra exspence for the hydro nutrients is the way to go! (I use canna)http://216.40.249.192/mysmilies/ups/DeNiro/peace.gif

I used to use the Manutec gear, wasn't too bad, but then I discovered the mj specific nutrients at a hydro shop and for the sake of a few dollars savings I'm not going to give up the extra ounces I get from using mj nutrients.
