500w hallogen flood light.

i was in bunnings 2day and i saw that they had 500w helagen flood lights for like $18. i will be starting a new closet grow. 130hieght, 70across. are they ok to grow with because i dont have much money

I saw some pics of a grow done under halogen lights and they were sad looking plants. They are the wrong spectrum for growing plants. I think they throw out a fair bit of heat too. Pity though, for 18 bucks a light it would cheap. I suggest you stick to MH or HPS or of course fluros. Best of luck.

Yea sorry mate, too good to be true. Metal Halide lights are what u want for growing plants in veg and High Presure Sodium for flower. Those ones put out the wrong spectrum ( nearly all red i think ) but they make great worklights in the garage

yeah mate I got 2 of those 500 watters at home - I use em as floodlights in my backyard for BBQs, night cricket and basketball, and ocassionally, a bit of night boules.

 

Pretty cool for these purposes - not cool for growin though...

Best off with CFL's or even some regular fluorescent lights would be much better & cheap; but once you have the cash go for a HPS ballast & get a conversion bulb for MH. Then you will be set!
