Small Grow Idea..

AzZa-

Recommended Posts

I have a little cuboard in my computer desk which just may b suitable for one plant to grow under fluro's...

Below is the specs of the desk...

What would you guys recommend to put in there, I know you can train plants to grow shorter..

But i think i would just force flowering earlier or move it else where for flowering...

Tips Please

How I would go about it, there maybe better ways/improvements suggested by others.

To use this for a single plant grow you are going to need 4 - 6 compact fluorescents fitted into the sides and back of the cupboard as high up as possible, this would allow you to fit the cf's horizontally and maximise grow height, with one plant in a small cabinet it is easier to adjust the height of the plant than the lights.

For ventilation use a 12v PC fan run by a variable voltage plug-in adaptor (fan speed control) into the top back of the cabinet and, for stealth reasons, the inlet vent holes would be set in the bottom rear of the cupboard, short lengths of PVC pipe could be fitted to the insides to pipe the incoming air to the front of the cabinet and to ensure that no light escapes through the vents, a similar thing could be done for exhaust fan with some down pipe.

You will need to ensure that the inside of the door, walls and top are painted with flat white ceiling paint or lined with panda film or Mylar. The door will also need to be light sealed, you can get all sorts of self-adhesive rubber and stuff from a hardware or Kmart.

One thing I would highly recommend is that you fit a lock to the cupboard, you could take the door to a locksmiths or cabinet maker and get an appropriate type lock fitted and instructions on how to fit the catch.

I'm afraid it's not high enough for a "normal" grow system AzZa, see, there's 63 cm, minus the space you need for the lamp (min 20cm) and the space for the pot your plant needs. A plant keeps growing also in the time it's flowering so if you want to use this space you will have to bend and tie down the plant from the start, and keep doing this with every part that starts growing up, except for the buds, maybe you can grow in there this way, and did you think of a solution for the smell?

After a couple of grows you could look into the SCROG method of growing, this method was designed for small areas. As tboat points out, this cabinet is a bit small but you can grow in it, it is not going to make you self-sufficient though.

How much does it smell??

Some strains smell worse than others but there is a smell.

Might just go back to my out side box??

how high should i allow in my full size box??

Seven feet (2.134m) is what I prefer.

a couple of months ago i set up a lil sprouting room in a desk draw thats like 35cm high.. i used 2 9w desk lamps and slowly removed plants and in the end i had a fair few outside and one with like 8 sets of leaves and some 7 pointed leaves.. it out grew the draw so i gave it to my friend who managed to kill it within a couple of weeks  but the one i kept out side after sprouting inside is jus starting to flower B)
