CO2 - Is it needed? Is it a hassle?

Recommended Posts

Even though CO2 enrichment can mean 30-100% yield increases, the hassle, expense, space, danger, and time involved can make constant or near constant venting a desirable alternative to enrichment. As long as the plant has the opportunity to take in new CO2 at all times, from air that is over 200 ppm CO2, the plants will have the required nutrients for photosynthesis. Most closets will need new CO2 coming in every two or three hours, minimum. Most citys' will have high concentrations of CO2 in the air, and some growers find CO2 injection unnecessary in these circumstances.

Some growers have reported to High Times that high CO2 levels in the grow room near harvest time lower potency. It may be a good idea to turn off CO2 2 weeks before harvesting.

I have been reading articles regarding CO2 generators/homemade CO2 generators/pros and cons of them both but have ended up with a 50/50 result in regards to whether they are the go... lol

The flowering room is 1m X 1m X 2.4m, 150mm centrifugal exhaust, 300 carbon filter, 200mm inlet fan at base, oscillating fan to create movement.

What do you think? Will I need CO2? I was planning on running the fans constantly - but if I add CO2 then they will have to be off for some period of time (preferably during the dark period), and I read that you shouldn't use the CO2 during the dark period.

Jimbo :(

yeah I wouldn't worry about it jimbo. co2 is best used when you are not relying on your ventilation to cool your room ie you are running an airconditioner so you can shut off the ventilation when releasing the co2.

the cheap way to do it is to set up a drip bottle of vinegar into a bowl of baking soda and place it near your intake vent lol

yeah jimbo, how's it goin.

My growroom is nearly identical to yours in spec.

I've found with the centrifugal, it sucks that air in at a fair rate, giving great ventilation.

As an added Co2 input though, I just mix up some yeast/sugar in a 2 litre bottle every 2 weeks. Attach a hose to the top and feed it onto the floor. Very cheap and simple as. Can't measure the benefits of doin this but a bit more Co2 is better than no more.

Cheers

Isnt C02 heavier than air, so it would sink to the floor. if you were putting it on the floor I wonder how the plants would get it?

Ive never used c02, but I think its all hype. I dont believe it increases the yeild from ONE grow at all. it just increases the rate that the plant grows?
