SCROG nutrient delivery systems...

Recommended Posts

I always thought scrog basicly means sea of green , the fastest way to fill your grow space and create a sea of green is with numbers , a friend of mine has great success with a similar deal as Postman ,, he would use flood and drain trays and made a lid out of plyboard , he cut holes in the ply lid where the cages filled with expanded clay fitted neat , he would then flood and drain the tray once an hour during lights on cycle and once through the night cycle , his spacing was about 250 to 300ml centres , as soon as the clones showed roots they were put in a cage pot and into the main system he would give the clones about 3 or 4 days under 18hrs with 1/2 the lights on ,, then he would turn to 12 hrs and give them full light to flower ,,, he had a carpet of 12 to 18 inch donkey dicks at the end of 8wks

Run to waste is very wastefull of water and nutrient , as far as result goes it will give you no benefit at all over a well managed recirculated system .

scrog = screen of green. less plants trained into a screen to fill out the flowering space and maximise bud site exposure to the light. a good option for personal growers to maximise yields in small spaces and/or to keep plant numbers down.

sog = sea of green - many plants grown close together and flowered with minimal veg time. the preferred option for commercial growers. :toke

Hey guys,

I've decided to go with a mixture of 30% Clay & 70% Perlite in tubs running a recirculating system like Luke Skywalkers (fantastic article too! :helpsmilie: )

I'll check out "fried rice and abit of DWC" too - thanks!

I'll stick to my idea of the SCROG as I think that will work in well for my needs.

I have a few new questions on clones that I'll post seperatly.

Thanks

Who told you this? That is wrong :helpsmilie:

My system uses one 55litre res full a week. That is full strength, clean nutes, all week. Not nutes mixed with the plants own exudes(shit) and expelled C02 to raise pH.

The system can flush with 10-12 litres of water.

As far as results being equal, no argument. The other list of benefits are numerous, but hey, if you want to drive a manual as compared to an automatic with cruise control, well....

G/day Bufo , how many plants you got on that 55 ltrs , also keep in mind the flow rate must be reduced to keep your waste down where a recirculated system flow rate is 10 fold higher for the same strength of nutrient , run to waste will accumulate salts just the same if you restrict flow although most people are not restricting flow with run to waste , this is why I say its wastefull , like youself though it doesnt need to be wastefull , I would sooner recirculate than restrict flow rates at feed times , if both methods are done correctly I doubt very much anyone could see the difference in the plants .

:helpsmilie: 2 plants in a 45litre crate roadblock, 55litre res

The flow rate is a dribble for a minute 3 times a day, but is enough to produce runoff and keep the coco mix moist. The tap tee'ed off back into the res makes it easy to adjust the flow.

With the hand watered flushing I have been reading the runoff till I can see the EC has fallen to around 1.0 and the pH has come back to around 5.5, fairly basic but effective.

Trying to keep a healthy grow through summer was the reason I swithced from recirculating to the coco mix.

Saying that though, I'll probably go back to the Hydroton some time this year mainly because I enjoy it, and it is reusable.

Im in the same boat mate up here in summer , had nothing but trouble with Rockwool and pyth , went back to Clay and everything is powering and no sign of pyth , Rockwool is a bitch in the far nth , Ive never used Coco but would think it would be the same up here , holds too much water , sounds like you got your system wired mate :helpsmilie:
