SCROG nutrient delivery systems...

Recommended Posts

Hello to all the incredibly helpful people who have taken the time to answer my questions and give their advice on my last post. I'm feeling very confident about the growroom now and am going shopping this week!!! Pics will be posted of the construction and I'll even try to do it as a tute.

My new question is about SCROG growing. I was initially confused about SCROG and SOG and now understand that I don't want the upkeep and hassle of a SOG, and the turnover rate is not important - I'm shooting for quality and yield for perse.

The SCROG system intrigues me and I want to give it a go but I'm not able to find any topics that address the best delivery systems for it or even if it matters???

Can you give me your opinions on what works best and whether recirculation is ok - as that is what I was going to run with.

Cheers in Advance!

Jimbo :)

I'm growing a small scrog in a wardrobe. It's only my second attempt at it but I've just been hand watering and it seems to be going fine. The main thing that I've found is to make sure you leave enough room between the pots and the screen for the watering can, jug, whatever you water with to fit.

Heya Jimbo .... you are wondering how you get to your pots thru all the undergrowth ?

well if you dont make your screen so big that you cant get to the pots and you can elevate the pots so the net is not so low ... then you can even water by hand

or you can have it setup with a pump to deliver aerated nutes to each pot via black poly hose from a reservior

or you can implement Deep Water Culture, where the roots are suspended in a re-circulating oxygen-rich nutrient solution, though this method maybe better if you have some previous experience in cultivating marijuana

whatever system is most practical and easiest for you really

I guess that I didn't explain myself clearly enough! :)

I understand the correct height to install the screen from the top of the pots, and the different methods of watering (delivery) but I was wondering if there was a preferred or optimal method of delivery? Such as F/D, recirculating, hand watering, drip etc...

By the sounds of it there isn't so I guess that solves that! I'd still be interested in knowing more about Deep Water Culture but I don't have any experience with it so I will probably leave that until I've got a few under my belt with the new room.

Cheers

hey jimbo,

as said the the scrog doesnt rely on any one style of feeding, although handwatering would be hard if netting is very low but can be done.

what soil/ medium would you like to use?

coco

coco/ perlite

clay pebbles

perlite

rock wool

river sand

silica stones

the list goes on.

Im getting pretty good results with my run to waste coco/perlite grow scrogged and sog. You could recirculate through perlite, clay rock wool and silica stones. Have you bought or made your setup if so choices may be limmited to what its designed for. ie coco is no good for recirc grows although im following a recirc coco grow atm seems to have overwatering issues but nothing alittle less water wouldnt fix

DWC is probally the only set up id say isnt well suited to scrog, unless you can drain/ clean buckets without moving plants, youll also need a massive air pump that are generally expensive and loud. DWC is a good setup once youve got the wrinkles ironed out but be prepared for high water temps, in our climate it can be hard to control and lower temps. Why some growers use those aqarium coolers to chill the solutions once again $$$$.

I tend to like my grows simple and user friendly a pot of coco fed from a well mixed and airated res, drip fed 4 to 6 times aday. have alook into run to waste vs recirculating set ups there your best choices id think.

I disagree with thc24 I think DWC is the perfect growing method to use with indoor scrog.

Firstly and most importantly IMO DWC saves on head height as the pots/buckets are not required to be elevated as in most other hydro systems.

Secondly when you scrog the veg period is longer because you have less plants to fill out more area, and DWC generally produces faster veg. growth than a medium based hydro system.

Thirdly there is fuck all medium to deal with, only a cup of clay balls for each plant. One of the biggest pain in the arse jobs at the beginning and end of a grow is dealing with the medium but with a DWC there's little to no effort in this regard. The lack of medium also makes your rootzone less inviting to pests and helps keep your growroom sterile.

thc24 is right in that DWC is more temperature sensitive, but if you got your climate control good enough so that your grow is at the right temp the rootzone temps should be about right as well. but if you can't control your heat and your growroom is running at 30-35 degress you will get more problems with a DWC at those temps than a medium based grow. Some growers just drop a bottle of frozen water in the res every day if its needed to keep the temps down although I've never had to do it myself.
