Plant just hanging on

Recommended Posts

I am very very new to growing, I'm about to but a Hydro setup but while i was saving my money i decided to put a few outdoor seeds in, anyways.......

1 plant poped up, I've been treating it like it's my baby, it's been growing rather slowly but everyone i've shown it to says it looks like a very nice plant. anyways....

I was down the Hawksbury fishing today and my plant was outside sucking up the sun, we were about 20 mins into fishing and I saw one mother of a storm coming my way and the first thing that poped into my head was FELIX (he's my plant.... yes yes i did name him.... and hopefully it comes out a she.. anyway)

I raced home as quick as i could, ran inside, went upstairs, i saw felix and he was bent right over due to the wind and just as i got there a huge gust of wind nearly pushed him of the bancony. anyways, I took him inside and tied the stem to a few skewers. The stem has not snapped but creased.

Now this is my question. I have setup a fluruo light in the garage and i've nuted felix up and i'm planning on leaving him there all night. am i just an idiot or could this actually work?

The nute i used is called "Charlie Carp" is says on the bottle, 1 part nute to 100 parts water. I used .5 nute and just under a letre of water, I've only used half the bottle on him so far, i'm hoping the fluruo will dry the soil out in a couple of hours so i can water him again.

By any chance can u give me like a 30% chance he'll live and 70% he'll die? would u have any idea champ?

The plant is 5 weeks old. It's been growing very slowly (i think) he's about 18cm's tall.

thx for ur help Tom!

I would give it a very high chance of recovery, go easy on the watering, with fluoro light it should only need one or two waterings a day and keep the light about 5cm (2") above the plant. You should not use fertiliser with each watering as it can cause nutrient burning of the plant and salt build up in the soil, Urbanhog or one of the other soil growers could advise you better about soil fertilisers and how often they are needed.

me again tom, A few more qustions if that is ok. Sorry if i'm hasseling you.......

I just went and moved my plant a little more away from the fluruo, when i first put him/her in there all his/her leaves were down, now the second top layer of leaves are poking up towards the light (that's gotta be good yes?) The plants other problem is that the stem at the bottom (where's it's nearly snapped) is thinner than half way up the plant. I was just wondering if it is worth putting some sort of reflector at the bottom of the tree so the thin stem + the wound can get light?

is that a worthy thing to do or not worth it? and if so, How do i actually beem the light onto the bottom of the plant?

Yes.

A sign of over-watering.

No, the area around the wound will thicken into a knob to support the plant, sort of like the knob on a grafted tree.

Not worth it, plants are designed to receive light from above.
