Can anyone diagnose this plant

Recommended Posts

Ok here are the specifics

2 x 600 watt hps (1 plant under each) in 40 litre pots

Rough tie down of plant -semi-scrog

Run to waste in perlite

EC 22-26 depending on how far into flower but usually 22-24 for first 3 weeks and last 3 weeks,

but this has been going on since day one with this strain, so I have tried EC at 22 all the way

through on some grows but this still happens, I usually up EC during week 4 and 5 to 26.

Flush with PH'ed water after PK13-14 then put back on 22-24 nute solution

Have tried 3 or 4 different nute brands but they end up the same.

PH is 5.8 during veg 6.0 during grow/bloom 6.3 in bloom

add silica every 3rd tank of nutes

add oxyplus at 2ml per 10 litres every 2nd day

Add frozen coke bottles to tank to get nute solution to 19-21c

(live in the tropics, Queensland)

Air con when temps hit 29c but can get up to 33c if I am not around to monitor.

Having said that, it never gets that hot in winter but this still happens.

Feed twice daily until I get run off, sometimes only once a day ( maybe 10-12 times

during 8 week bloom depends if I get sidetracked or unable to go into my room due to visitors etc)

PK13-14 added at the rate of 1.5ml to 2ml per litre. but i still make sure EC is around 24-26,

(EC only this high during 1 week of pk13-14) and on previous grows kept EC at 22 even

after adding pk13-14, but made no diff.

Pics have been taken 1 week from harvest

Yield still ok.

Meters calibrated regularly PH & EC

Occassinally add super thrive to nute tank, but not this time around, but makes no difference

For the most part, it is mainly the shade leaves that are affected. The bud leaves do show some

discoloration but do not completely die off like the shadies

I thought it could be magnesium deficiency, added some epsom salts to tank

( had no idea how much so added 2 level tablespoons, made no difference

but they were already as bad as pics and i only added it once)

If you can think of anything else let me know

aussie1

PS i always have a powder residue in bottom of my nute tank, and solution appears cloudy

(after adding PH up or down) most of the time even though I add PH up or down in a diluted form

they just about fucked imo

take it easy in the flower food categorie

the plant will talk to u and tell u too much

the way it talks is by markings on its leaves

i suggest they have been displaying little problems u have not picked up on during flower and even grow maybe

to me it looks like all that leaf browning and the shape of the brownin

id say it may be potassiam or phosorous that may be either locked out

or u have locked out other nutes as aresult of too much p+k

ive found in the past pk 13 14 if used in big doses will prelong the maturation process

imo flush the fucker with 90ltrs of water

as its the last week who really cares

just flush n pull

bil

ive had plants at 2.8EC and no probs like u r havin

it depends on the strain

for ex i wouldnt give me dominas that much foods

as i know shes a lite feeder

yea i think your forcing too much fert into em ... and too often .. resulting in lockout . the perlite although looks like a dry medium will hold moisture , and the plant if you let it will suck it all out . your plants look like they havn't dried out between waterings .. imo . i'd look at clay balls for the next grow , or something that dries quicker . or perhaps a tank underneath the pots to allow the roots through and into the water ... just a thought , good luck mate

I think plants are drying out completely as the pots (40 litre- full of perlite -and plant) are as light as a feather.

I will add at this point that the last 5 or 6 crops were on hand feed and that ultimately meant they missed out on many and a lot of the time would go 48 hours without a feed. It is because of this I have automted the feed thinking they were under fed, but as you can see, even with regular feeding this prob persists.

Any experts out there with any ideas on what is wrong?

I realise this crop is what it is, but it is an ongoing prob and I am trying to find a solution for future grows.

An EC of 2.0 is what I class as full strength, I realise some strains can take it higher but they are the exception

I really think it is an over fert problem

You have everything else spot on

Next crop stick between 1.6-1.8 and I doubt you will see that problem again

Also if your perlite has done any more than 3 crops it can start to accumulate salts that don't want to flush easily, any hydro shop will recommend similar and recommend you replace it

I agree 110% with the above, and when irrigating perlite it is adviseable to allow at least 25% run-off, e.g. if watering in 4 litre , need 1L runoff, though more is better.

Ok, seeing as though there is no other obvious problem I will definitely lower

the EC next time around. I never re-use perlite so it is fresh each time.

Another thing I have just remembered, I gave some clones to someone

as he kills his regularly. Last time I was there I checked his EC and PH as he

never calibrates his EC meter and only uses the liquid PH tester kit to get

PH spot on. His EC was 29 and he said he likes it that way. My clones???

How can they survive his treatment and be lush and green, yet keel over

for me.

I was wondering if maybe the plastic tank I bought at Bunnings might be

poisoning them. I bought the nute tank the same time I started using these

clones. It is a black 60 litre tank and probably recycled plastic. Does anyone

know what a poisoned plant looks like??

Thanks to all for help so far

PS can someone please tell me why all the books on MJ and on every nute bottle I have

ever seen, it says run EC at 22-24 in summer 24-26 in winter ?????????????

The lower EC level for summer is to help keep the nutrient solution around the target conductivity level.

In hot weather the plants will transpire more and so use more water than nutrient which can lead to high a EC in the nutrient solution

You know how you were using ice in your res to keep the res temp down,... have you thought that the temp swing could be giving you different EC and PH readings? If your taking a reading of 2.6 with a lump of ice in there by the time mid afternoon comes that would have been quite a temp rise and quite different EC/PH readings I would imagine?

I reckon this would be worth trying. Stop using the ice and replace it with a fan blowing across the top of your perlite to keep it cool and also if you can funnel some air into the res to try cool it as well.

You should be able to run at EC 2.0 and maybe even higher if you can get your root temps sorted.

Tweeking your feed times to target keeping the roots cool would be something you could easily try that may help a little too.

I see you are trying to cool 2x600s in the tropics that is no easy task and I see your already looking at cool tubes.

I never liked the idea until I forced myself to try it, but hanging your lamps vertically and tossing the reflectors is a great inexpensive way to loose a lot of heat. Hard to change if you like scrogs but if done correctly you can do even better than a with screen

Sounds as though you have almost got things sorted. Keep it up and soon it will run like a clock
