Five people arrested as police smash Asian drug ring Sydney's sout

Recommended Posts

Three women and two men, alleged to be members of an organised Asian drug crime syndicate, have been arrested in dawn raids across Sydney’s south west today.

Detectives from Botany Local Area Command and teams of officers from the South West Metropolitan Region simultaneously raided six homes just after 6am.

They allegedly located hundreds of hydroponic cannabis plants and dried cannabis with an estimated street value of more than a million dollars.

More than 60 officers took part in the operation, codenamed ‘Glenayre’, targeting homes in Queen Street, Ashfield; Mount Street, Bonnyrigg Heights; Robert Street, Belmore; Ogmore Street, Bankstown; DeMeyrick Street, Casula; and Whitford Road, Green Valley.

Three of the hyrdo houses were located in the same streets as primary and high schools. Police believe this may have been a deliberate attempt by the syndicate to disguise their activities, including heavy traffic flows to and from those properties.

It follows a six-week investigation focussing on the group, which is suspected of involvement in the large-scale production and cultivation of hydroponic cannabis.

Almost 400 cannabis plants were allegedly seized at the Ashfield, Casula, Bonnyrigg and Green Valley properties.

At the Bonnyrigg Heights residence, police arrested a 34-year-old man and 25-year-old woman after allegedly uncovering cannabis plants worth $150,000 and dried cannabis valued at $250,000, which is believed to have been due for sale on Sydney’s drug market within days.

An eight-month-old baby and three-year-old girl located at the scene were placed by police in the care of relatives.

Acting South West Metropolitan Region Commander, Acting Assistant Commissioner Mick Plotecki, said the setups inside most of the homes indicated a sophisticated criminal enterprise.

“Some of these homes were uninhabited and had been acquired by the crime group purely for the purpose of growing hydro crops,” Acting Assistant Commissioner Plotecki said.

“The syndicate went to extreme lengths to avoid detection; however, good investigative work has resulted in today’s arrests.

“Police have uncovered and dismantled yet another Asian crime group involved in growing hydro cannabis, using a system that was first seen by authorities in Canada,” he said.

At the Casula residence, a 56-year-old Vietnamese woman - believed to be an illegal immigrant – was arrested.

A 28-year-old man was arrested at the Ashfield address, while a 29-year-old woman was taken into police custody at the Green Valley residence.

Those arrested have been taken to Bankstown, Liverpool, Green Valley and Ashfield police stations for questioning. It’s expected they will be charged later today.

It’s the second large drug bust by NSW Police this week.

On Monday (27 November), officers attached to Strike Force Arrowsmith arrested and charged 15 people in relation to the alleged sale and distribution of firearms and drugs – including heroin, ice and cannabis - in Sydney’s west and regional New South Wales.

A sixteenth person was arrested and charged in relation to that operation on Tuesday.

“NSW Police will continue to hunt down and put behind bars anyone involved in the illegal drug trade,” Acting Assistant Commissioner Mick Plotecki said.

this has been going on for a couple of years in england. vietnamese gangsters hire a house, kit it out with hydroponic equipment and put a couple of teenage illegal immigrants in to tend it. most get caught because of the smell but alot don't get caught at all.

having said that, there has been a drought of all kinds of cannabis in the uk for about three months. there's even a shortage of soapbar and there are stories of dealers travelling from belfast to glasgow to score.

still, the police and media always tell us all how much the crop was worth so i think there'll be lots more people visiting the local hydro stores in the future.

As a father of three children this makes me sick to the stomach. I don't care who says it is the rules, it is wrong. How dare they take children away from their parents because of a petty excuse like this. They say they want to protect children from drug abuse, so therefore cannabis must be prohibited. How about:

half a dozen pigs invading someones home, invading personal privacy and space? How does it affect children witnessing police brutality and arrogance? How does it affect children witnessing police destroying their property in a vain attempt to find a plant? How does it affect children watching mum's and dad's being thrown into the court system? How does it affect the children when mum and dad get thrown in jail for growing a fu$$n plant? How does it affect children when parents stick up for their moral rights to defy a law that is obviously broken and unworkable? How do we teach our children that they can't have a plant when they can go to school and get it themselves? This is the result of prohibition. How do we teach our children that our government have been lied to and are too stupid to reveal the truth?

I teach my children from the bible. Genisis 1:29 says it all. Fuck the cops, Fuck the court system and Fuck the government.

We have to teach our children to stick up for themselves and to fight for what they believe in. We have to teach them that the police are there to protect them from violent criminals. How can I teach my children to trust police when I know they are mostly cunts?

All I can say is keep your dicks in your pants fella's!!!

Genisis 1:31 said "Then God saw everything that he made and indeed it was very good.

How dare any man say that something is bad after our creator has already said it was very good.

You make lots of good points auspamp

My kids grew up watching me smoke then grow my own

They see how I have lived and have made their own judgments

My son played sport at state level for almost 10 years, is now a tradesman, brought a house of his own, doesn't use drugs apart from alcohol, has tried a few eckies, big deal

Eldest daughter, accepted into business at uni, blitzed high school, works as well, brought her own car(nicer than mine) smokes ciggies, pot occasionally, drinks alcohol

Youngest daughter, absolutely killing it, 19 years old, has been working for 2 years, at times 2 jobs, also has a better car than me :peace:, has just scored a managment position after running a busy resort office, smokes ciggies, does not take any illegal drugs, light drinker.

If this is how you fuck up your kids lives by exposing them to cannabis I'd quite happily do it again
