THE sale of bongs and other drug smoking equipment will be banned in Queensland, Premier Peter Beattie said today.

The State Opposition says a number of businesses in the heart of Surfers Paradise have glass pipes and other implements associated with illegal drug use prominently displayed in their windows.

One shop was even promoting schoolies' specials, Opposition health spokesman John-Paul Langbroek said.

The pipes are used for smoking crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as “ice” when the nation was in the grip of an ice epidemic, Mr Langbroek said.

Mr Beattie said if it was true retailers were promoting glass pipes at a discount, that was “absolutely outrageous and unacceptable”.

“I don't think we should have greed over human misery,” Mr Beattie said today.

“I think they should stop immediately.

“I do want to warn these retailers you will not be selling these implements much longer because the Queensland Government plans to have them banned.”

It is illegal under current Queensland current laws to use glass pipes for illegal drugs but retailers often bypass the laws by advertising them as tobacco-smoking implements or port sippers

oh yeah, make bongs illegal. no one's ever thought of that before. brilliant. lol

Mr. Beattie, if you want to do some worthwhile on this issue how about legalisation and regulation. you know, something that might actually reduce the availability of drugs to kids.

as for adults, if you think banning the sale of pipes and bongs will result in decreased levels of drug use you are seriously delusional. ok fine, make us smoke out of an orchy bottle instead of a nice glass pipe. that will do wonders for our health...

I would have thought Mr. Beattie had more important problems to worry about than this nonsense. how about solving the water, electricity, and health care problems in qld, you know, basic public services. :peace:

Complete bongs have been Illegal in queensland for a couple of years.

have a look in the bong shop, Most have the tube and cone missing. thats how they have been getting away with it.

But under this new law, it looks like even the parts are to become illegal.

The thinking behind is probably so that you can get even more screwed when you get busted.

:peace:

fuckwits.

I don't agree with bongs and MJ pipes being banned, but crack pipes, hell yes they should be illegal over there. WA has already taken that step. The ice epidemic is no longer a joke, it's like a fucken cancer that's eating away the young generation and even the 20-30's....... Whoever had specials on these 'pipes' should have their fucken shop closed and license taken away :peace:

And pipeman, crack pipes are useless to MJ smokers, even for hash and oil  So, there's no need for potheads to worry about crack pipes bein banned. Just get a vape! I hate how MJ and crack pipes/bongs are being grouped together. That shits me.
