I totally agree with WhiteSkunk in regards to the number of lights. I run around 3300 w in a 7' x 7' shed in the tropics. I've got a $299 small A/C in at the moment whch runs 24/7. To tell the truth, I think I could do with a far bigger a/c. I run lights on during night time - I could not even think about having the lights on during normal day time at this time of year. With 1100w maybe but not much more.

I've just made a few mods to my ventilation system:

My aircon basically pokes its nose through the shed at ground level. Inside the room I have 2x fans connected to ducting that draws cold air from a/c out let and distributes to wherever I want (usually about 6 inches above plants). My auto Co2 injection system delivers gas directly to one of these fans (and then over the canopy).

The remaining cold air coming in from the a/c is allowed to circulate around the pots. I've used a number of air 'deflectors' to ensure this cool air is continuously flowing to each corner of the room. I will have a fan on the ground that will force the cold Co2 rich air back up through the canopy.

Because my a/c does not have the option of recirculating the air in the room (fucked up big time here), I have ducted the whole of the air con intake (from front of a/c) to draw in air from the top of the room. If I don't do this, the a/c would suck up a lot of the cool, heavy, Co2 rich air from the bottom of the room and exhaust it outside (lost).

I bought a $90.00 (bunnings) exhasut fan which I run continously. I'm not quite sure how much this fan moves but it ain't nearly enough. Sure, it keeps things down to an okay level but I don't have much control over things. I would much rather have a bigger fan that I can stop/start according to requirements - also this will help me with optimising Co2 levels.

I currently inject Co2 every few minutes (via automatic controller) to try and get some benefit from Co2.

I have fitted a fan and ducting over the hood of my 1100w sunmasters. This essentially turns it into an air cooled light - works brilliantly.

Fuck.....I'm wrecked.

this is an evaperitive cooler and will increase humiity

no it doesnt for i have proper ventilation which controls it, it can b 40-45 degrees outside and in my room i sit between 24-30degrees provideing you set things up right you dont have those probs........................ B)

Don't get me wrong here, I'm not trying to piss you off and I welcome you as a member of this site but when posting advice it helps to explain what "proper ventilation" is, a new grower end up growing mould otherwise.

i grow in a shed and i dont use a ac.........

yes tom but do you also run between 2800watts to 4000watts per grow or just a couple of 400s??????

because yes if i grew like most people here small cabinets with a couple of 400s then no i wouldnt need to use a A.C either so it dopes depend on your setup and methods of growing.e.g whether you want to yeild 6oz or 6lb..i try 4 the later one there for i do use one........... B)

I live in a part of Australia where you would get ice on the roof of your shed in winter and I doubt you would need a cooler in summer.

yeah there's a huge differences in prices between the East Coast (Hobart) and North Coast (Launceston, Devonport, Burnie) and West Coast (Queenstown, etc) due there isnt much in the West Coast thats why the prices are soooooo cheap compared to buying in other parts of Tassie where its starts from over $80,000 for average middle class suburbs or starts over $200,000+ in Hobart's upper class Suburbs like Sandy Bay, Leah Valley, Battery Point and New Town.

The same house in Sydney's Double Bay (or "Double Bay = Double Income B) ) for 4 bedroom, double garage, large back yard, 2 bathrooms and a swimming pool with great sea views will easily cost you over $2million+ but for the excalty same house in Hobart's suburb of Sandy Bay will knock you back for between $250,000 to $400,000.

I used to live in Tassie, and now thinking about buying one in Tassie to rent it out..... because the rents is still pretty much the same national wide, but the houses is cheaper so it will be quicker to pay off the house loan :D

Cheers

Yeah, the high rent compared to the property values is one thing that I noticed when I moved here from Vic.

this is all true urbanhog, however the one thing you need to be careful of when buying low cost housing for rental income is that you don't realise anywhere near the capital gains that an inner city or even suburban property will give. And in some cases you will actually realise a capital loss, especially in areas of declining population, which may or may not be Tassie.

so yeah, it will be easier for you to make repayments and you'll be getting a much better return for your dollar in the short term, but if you do the figures in the long term you will mostly find that you are better off spending more to buy in an area that will give you good capital gains on your property. It may mean saving for another 5 years before you can buy, but if you go through the figures with a good financial adviser I think you'd find that it'd be worth it.
