Recommended Posts

Hi, i've been blessed with an empty garage loft space .

the space has good ventilation and the growing are is 2 m by 2 m by 1.6 m high , the climate here is usually quite hot but i still want to use 1000 w sodium ..

would i need to install air - con , or would i get away with fans, air cooled reflector ??? thanks

You will need fans to keep the fresh air moving through the grow room anyway, so I would be tempted to try it without air conditioning at first, insulting the grow room can also help, if the loft has an iron roof you could paint it silver on the outside to reflect the heat better. Even if you do end up getting an air conditioner these measures won't be wasted, they would help minimise the running costs.

Edited in: Just noticed from another of your posts that you live in QLD, we have other members up your way so maybe they could tell you if they use an air conditioner.

insulting the grow room can also help

yeah, give it what for. and if it doesn't improve you may have no choice but to kick its ass as well. ;)

I use an airconditioner in the room my grow cupboards are in. I guess it serves a dual purpose in that it changes the air in the room keeping it fresh for the plants and also helps keep temps under control. Hasn't really solved my temp problems though (cupboard temps range from 26-34 degrees) So I plan to hook up some ducting so its blowing cold air directly into the cupboards.

Only problem with this is that it will make it harder to contain smell during flowering as I will be pressurising the cupboards forcing the pungent air out through leaks.

Should have spelt it "insulating", I usually save my insults for computers.

hey everest. How's things mate?

I currently live in the very northern part of QLD and have to continuously run a small a/c in my 2m x 2m. Room. Mind you I am using anywhere between 2,500 and 3,400watts of light at any given time.

I have the a/c sticking in the bottom of my grow shed. Inside, I have a couple of fans and ducting which brings the cool air up to any level/direction I need. Doing this I get to keep a cool root zone as well as maintain a relatively cool above root grow area.

I exhaust air continuously from the room. I also have my lights on during night time. I just could not do it in the day time at this time of year without a far bigger a/c. I also have Co2 injected into the cool air ducting which is subsequently delivered over the top of my babes.

everest: growing in any shed/loft space in australia u need to use an air con as well as in and out ventilation.

i currently use a water cooled breez air which i have converted into a duel purpuse unit .i have it running continously pumping fresh air in and then i have diconected the pump inside and ran my own pump to the top of the air con filling it with water which only cuts in when the thermometer reaches 30c thus cooling the room down to 24cand it cuts of the pump stopping the water..tghe total cost in converting it was $150 u need to have no smaller than a 1200ppm pump some 13mm hosing and a therostat which is conected to the pump to turn it on when the room exeeds 30c thus solving all your heat probs

p.s and im currently running 2800 watts in a 6x8 room in a shed with no heat probs now cheers :P

i grow in a shed and i dont use a ac.........

yes tom but do you also run between 2800watts to 4000watts per grow or just a couple of 400s??????

because yes if i grew like most people here small cabinets with a couple of 400s then no i wouldnt need to use a A.C either so it dopes depend on your setup and methods of growing.e.g whether you want to yeild 6oz or 6lb..i try 4 the later one there for i do use one........... B)
