MORE than 60 drivers tested positive to drugs in the first round of state roadside testing, police in SA said today.

Releasing interim results in the drug testing trial today, Assistant Commissioner Grant Stevens said 3424 drivers were tested between July 1 and November 12.

Of those, 34 tested positive for methamphetamines, two tested positive to MDMA, 13 for cannabis and 14 to a combination of drugs.

Officers also detected 46 drivers over the blood alcohol limit but said no motorists tested positive for both drugs and alcohol.

"Although we are not yet half-way through the 12-month drug driver testing trial, we are producing results that indicate drug use is occurring amongst some drivers," Mr Stevens said.

"We consider driver drug testing to be clearly in the interests of road safety and we want drivers to know that if they use illicit drugs, or exceed alcohol limits they are likely to be detected."

Mr Stevens said police were pleased with the support from drivers for the tests and said most were patient and happy to co-operate with the five-minute roadside testing process.

This is pissing me off too. I''m in QLD just waiting for these shitty laws to come in (this month I think)!!

FUCK THIS IS WRONG.

That basically means that anyone who smokes can't drive.. this will affect peoples lives dramatically and they know it!!

This is how they are fighting the "DRUG WAR".. it is us that must stop it.. SOMEHOW!!!!!!

Parlimanet house needs to be exploded and new people put in. ..Normal people..

I'm definitely not an advocate of this roadside random drug testing in any way, but try and look at it from the policeman's perspective for once instead of just saying how much it pisses you off. Marijuana is illegal. Full stop, no questions. It may have been decriminalised in some states, but that doesn't make it totally legal does it?. If you have 0.00000000000001% of THC in your blood, you have still consumed cannabis and in turn broken the law AS FAR AS THE COPS ARE CONCERNED and they will do anything in their power, sometimes more to see you are done for whatever offense you may have committed. I'm not saying that its right, that pot should be illegal and we should all be tested, I'm just saying instead of letting it get you pissed off, how about looking at it from another point of view for once. You could even go so far as to say its not the cops fault at all, they are just doing what the politicians and government make them by passing new laws but thats another totally different argument altogether isn't it :D

My rant on the whole roadside drug testing thing anyways..

WELL they said they didnt find anyone with BOTH ...............Some of them must off been taking both you would think..........................BUT who knows

THC is alcohol soluble, so a rinse and spit may work, in theory, but I wouldn't count on it.

The levels tested for are the real issue, if it is truly 'trace' amounts then it's possible that a heavy session could show up in saliva for days, on the flip side, it's quite possible that a cop (or anyone else for that matter) walking through a rave/party/concert could passive enough to get a result, wont take long for the first 'passive' test case to hit the courts.

As far as getting things changed, well there's a federal election next year, and state elections coming up

Vote Green, they are the only party that is currently showing drug law reforms in their policy as far as I know.

Hrms.. so they're not having blood tests with these roadside tests? So this means saliva tests only, right, meaning we need to wait 2-3 hours before we can drive? I can live with that, but if they want me to piss in a cuo or give them some of my blood FUCK THAT. That means it'd be almost impossible to live normally and smoke normally without getting busted. FUCK.
