Child sex, drug allegations

A SENIOR NSW Government Minister has been charged with buying drugs to procure child prostitution, sexual assault, and paying for sex with a 16-year-old boy using taxpayer-funded electoral funds.

The allegations yesterday plunged NSW Premier Morris Iemma into a new crisis, as he was forced to sack a second minister in two weeks and announce yet another reshuffle of his front bench.

Aboriginal Affairs Minister Milton Orkopoulos was arrested at 7.30 yesterday morning at his home in Belmont, Lake Macquarie, and charged with 30 offences.

He was released from Newcastle Court late yesterday on $20,000 bail.

Mr Iemma said he was not informed until 9pm on Tuesday of the impending arrest.

However his Police Minister John Watkins, a factional ally of Mr Orkopoulos, was told of possible arrests on Monday.

Mr Orkopoulos is accused of using his parliamentary office to entertain a boy he introduced to an MP as his stepson.

There they allegedly smoked marijuana and engaged in sexual acts.

The allegations involve incidents as recent as 2005, and include claims that the 49-year-old father of three used government funds to pay a boy $250 a week for sex.

He has been charged with 30 offences, including indecent assault, an act of indecency, engaging in an act of child prostitution, two counts of sexual assault without consent, three counts of aggravated indecent assault, and four counts of procurement for prostitution with a drug.

Mr Iemma said the MP, who was elected in 1999 and appointed a minister eight months ago, would be stripped of his Labor party membership and told to resign from Parliament.

He said it would be better that Mr Orkopoulos fight the charges as a "citizen".

"Let me say right now that there is no worse crime than child sexual assault," a grim-faced Mr Iemma said.

"The perpetrators of this (type of) crime should be condemned in the strongest terms possible and face the full force of the law."

The Swansea MP was led handcuffed to the dock yesterday for a one-hour hearing into allegations dating back more than nine years.

He appeared on the verge of tears as police prosecutor Justin Quinn told the court the allegations related to two separate episodes with boys aged under 18.

Police allege Mr Orkopoulos met the first boy, who cannot be named, at a bus stop late one night between April and October, 1997. A police statement tendered to the court yesterday alleged Mr Orkopoulos drove to a nearby car park, where they smoked marijuana.

Police say contact details were exchanged.

Police alleged that when they met a few days later, Mr Orkopoulos rubbed the boy's leg, assuring him "It's all right, no one's going to find out. I won't do nothing to hurt you."

Mr Orkopoulos then allegedly fondled the boy's genitals, and on the way home told him he could get "anything you want".

The court was told there were more than three years of similar meetings, at which Mr Orkopoulos handed over marijuana, alcohol and cash in return for various sexual favours.

Police alleged Mr Orkopoulos was paying the alleged victim, who had turned 18, an average $250 a week by 2000.

"These payments were made with government funds allocated to the accused each month for the Swansea electorate," the police statement said.

Intercepts placed on Mr Orkopoulos's phone earlier this month allegedly caught him saying to one of his alleged victims: "I haven't, sort of, for more than 12 months. I just weaken every time I see you. You're just the horniest."

The case was adjourned until January 31.

I wouldnt be surprised if there was probably more cases of this within our own government.

Our tax money is used for all kinds of seedy shit IMO.

Corruption is everywhere. perhaps he pissed of the wrong person, but we all know what kind of people they are.

hehe, i'd love to have the same faith in the pollies as you Ruen, but i tend to lean towards CG's thoughts.

Maybe the day when they have our hospitals, education, public roads, job security, MJ decriminalized, regulated fuel prices, stable interests rates, stop jumping at the USA demands, minimal national debt, stop building $30 million bridges in Indonesia and lookin after our own disadvantaged first, etc... Then we should maybe think about cutting them some slack. But we're a long way from going down that road. Especially while their too busy lining their own pockets with $$$ from corporate companies that are bleeding us and the planet dry. Reform can come about, but that means pollies would have to put us and the planet first, before their own needs and wants. Over history, it seems those with their heart in the right place tend to get hushed up or paid to take a position where their not too vocal and can't buck the system.

But this thread isn't about all of that, it's about a sick fuck messin' with kid/s while spending taxpayers dollars to do so. Bit different i suppose, usually it's priest or such we hear about. But once again, it's a abuse of a position/power by someone that is meant to be outstanding member of society (so they would like us to believe).

lol
