Brunnings COCO bricks

Recommended Posts

Raw coco ideally needs to be buffered with a calcium/magnesium solution. I can't remember all of the reasons behind it, something to do with the uptake of potassium etc, all that stuff bores me, but your plants may develop deficiencies with unbuffered coco. That usually happens at the end of the crop though. After having said that, I have used raw coco plenty of times without buffering it. I have found feeding quite low ec's to be the trick with coco.

Would you share your recipe for that buffering solution? I'm getting a Mg def at about 5 weeks every grow since I started using coir. I heard adding 2 tsp of dolomite lime per gallon of coir-mix worked...?

heyman,

thanks for the reply. I'm using tap water, it runs around 8-9. All in all, I think it's gotta be at least OK, cuz there's lotsa people using here with no problem.

I've grown a couple strains all the way through with no problem, but my white widow is having problems, even though I've heard that isn't a very MG hungry strain....

trying real hard to get a wtf on this situation, wasn't making much progress til today with finding the many threads on coir here.

cool place you got here.

Damn it i just planted some new seedlings into a Brunnings coco coir premium potting mix with slow release fertalizer + some perlite and blood & bone, just before i read this thread. I flushed the coco untill the water drained clear.

I'm now kinda regreting using this stuff.

I guess the results will speak for themselves. i'm definatly planting the rest of the seedlings in good old fasioned dirt.

Follow my grow journal for the results. (Link below)

I have only ever used Brunnings coir blocks and never had any problems. I have never flushed them before using either, i just mixed nutes in to the water, PH adjustment and used that to expand the brick. I use Canna COCO nutes as well.

This thread was a while ago so they may have improved their product since then.

I don't think you wi be disappointed with it. Just don't over water it and use a coco specific nutrient.
