Brunnings COCO bricks

Recommended Posts

yeh these brunnings are sus.. :peace: huge range in every bunnings ive been to and they are cheap around $1.80 i think.

to be honest i was a bit sus before hand..about 8 months ago i planted some seeds in some of it and they werent looking well at all, but i had to pull them because of an inspection and other bullshit..so i never got to fully see the outcome..but i was a bit sus.

i got another brick from bunnings.

called "RICHGRO super compressed coco-peat brick" its got a logo of some plant dude flexing his biceps..is this the one you got gaz?

well i just expanded and washed some RICHGRO coco-peat - water in 25ppm water out 25ppm. Seems like a different product to that brunnings stuff..more coarse...was easir to wash too..now to chuck in these seeds...already showing tails.

wish me luck

wayno1, good for you man..all their other stuff comes with nutes. did you rinse it?

:peace:

Richgro are alright as a brand, they make an expanded version in 30l bags too....

I can certainly recommend adding a proportion of the fine coco-fibre chips. These provide some extra drainage.

In the end, it's a trial and error thing. I wouldn't get ones with added fertiliser to them if possible, and I would generally buy expanded and buffered coco for growing things. But as an amendment to soil the compressed bricks are okay IMHO.

Im just using them to grow out some seedlings..in the past i only rooted in the brick stuff, its a great rooting medium.

I got no car atm so i cant lug around bags of soil or bags of coir so the bricks seem the only practical solution.

yeh the richgro seems to have less finer coir dust.

too bad the folks at www.cocopeat.com.au dont make its actually easy to purchase :peace:
