HERALD SUN,,,

DRUG dealers are putting their lives at risk by stealing electricity to grow hydroponic crops, Queensland's Parliament has been told.

Energy Minister Geoff Wilson said today electricity theft was getting worse, with one drug grower dying after illegally trying to hook up power to his home.

He said in the past three weeks three growers had been caught, including one in north Queensland who used stolen electricity to cultivate one of the state's largest hydroponic drug crops.

Power company Ergon Energy has now appointed an inspector to head a program to tackle the problem.

"People who do this are not only endangering their own lives, but also putting the safety of others in the community at risk," Mr Wilson said.

It is estimated about 2 per cent of all electricity distributed and sold is stolen, amounting to about $30 million a year in Queensland.

Offenders face a fine of up to $75,000 or six months in jail.

Wait up 30 mill * 50 == 1500 million in QLD alone

or is that a play on words to make the figure sound massive???

gotta take into consideration most people have air conditioners up in qld, growers, indrustial places, etc. so alot of electricity would be used in a single year...but imo saying 2% is stolen would be highly excessive as most people dont have the skills required to wire it up + the ones that do know that stealing electricity will only get you busted in the long run :applause:

What a load of shit!

Do they honestly expect us to believe this crap?

$30 million/year is a fair chunk of lost profits and they've only just begun to look into the problem :applause:

HAHA, i wonder if i'm meant to be one of those 3 that were reported to Queensland Parliament. One of the coppers tried to insinuate that because i had all the wiring run out but unconnected that i had intentions of by-passing the meter. I sternly told him those weren't my intentions at all as i'm not a complete idiot that knows i'd be looking at a bigger charge than growing some personal alone. Gotta hand it to him though, bloody good try. :applause:

But yeah, interesting how they start off saying hydro growers have been sprung stealing electricity then move onto to say that 2% of overall power is stolen. I wouldn't mind betting that quite a large percentage of the 2% are actually businesses knocking it off, and not growers. Just another story beat up to mis-conceive the general public. :applause:

indeed indy, there are stories of people knocking off power for their domestic use that arent growers. they just dont want to pay a $300 electric bill. some have been doing it for over a decade. (tightarses ay) :applause:

Farmers have been the traditional electricity thieves.

I am sick of seeing stories of FUCKWITS stealing electricity to hydro-up ,how often do you here this? Way to often it seems to me that without electricity thieves and snitch wives/girlfriends (occaisionally its a male snitch in these type busts but really its way over 90% women snitches for cannabis) coppers would never make an MJ bust. lol
