Newbie needs advice...

Here's the situation.

I want to grow one plant to show the wife how nice it would be to grow our own. She's not too keen on growing our own right now, but I think if we grow one with some decent yield, she may change her tune.

 

What is the best way to go about growing one plant?

Where should I get seeds here in Australia?

What's with the male/female plants? Which ones produce buds?

Size of the container?

Soil?

Watering?

Light?

Anything else I need to know?

My answers: I was a newbie once too ;0)

 

1. Probably if you start a couple of plants, say 10-20 seeds and then select the best female plant from the ones which sprout.

 

If you want to grow outside, its probably a bit late to start for this season. You could try putting them outside during the day & then putting them under fluoros at night for a few hours.

 

2. If you're a smoker, get some seeds out of a bag of weed. Don't buy from seedbanks as youll get ripped off for a (at best) highly variable product. If you're not a smoker, find someone who is, & get them to save a couple. Youll need 10-20 to get one good plant.

 

3. Female plants produce buds. Males dont. See pictures on this site.

 

4. Biiiiiiiiiiiigggggg pots, roughly 30-40 cm in diameter. Plant the seeds in a smaller pot then transplant.

 

5. Use compost+potting mix+ water crystals+ osmocote+ some dynamic lifter. Use organic materials if possible. Mix it up, & let it sit for a week or so, so its all nice & broken down.

 

6. Everyday if possible, if its in your backyard.

 

7. See #1.

 

8. Have fun & grow weed!!!!!!!

Setting up even a very basic grow room will mean spending some money, how about suggesting to your wife that she becomes a member here? Your lady could ask us about how we avoid detection and such, you could even mention that my hydro grows cost me around $10 - $12 an ounce to produce and that the mj is of a much higher quality than the junk that the dealers around here are selling for $250 an ounce.

 

For your first couple of grows I would suggest using some bag seed, when you have the hang of it check out some seedbanks, growers from this site that have used Aussie SPC and OzCan have complemented them on their seeds and clones, an SPC B'shen plant I have in my grow room is currently putting all my other plants to shame.

My problem right now is getting a hold of some seeds.

I am having a hard time finding a hook up in my circle of Mates...

 

Once I get something to smoke, I'll hold on to the seeds and give it a go.

 

Just for curiosity in case I get real desperate, where would the best place be to ask some stranger for some bud? I'm in N. Sydney.

My "friends" just aren't interested enough to help me out.

 

But I'm new, so I can't blame them...

You could just buy seeds from one of the two aussie seedbanks advertised on this site.

I've heard nothing but great things about the Aussie seed/clone banks... I've dealt with SPC and they're friendly and helpful. I doubt you'll get ripped off. I think OzCo has seeds starting from $80 for 20 seeds. That's pretty good value considering some international seed banks are charging up to $30 a seed!!! Support your Aussie product!!!

im sorry and forgive me 4 i dont mean to offend anyone but why would you buy seeded dope for in most cases(commericaly)it has come from a hermie and you dont want to take the risk off growing to have your babys go hermie ..waste of $$$$..you r far betta to buy from a reptuble dealer such as spc or ozco and start to grow some primo buds right away not wasteing 2-3 grows with bag seed j mo...

 

for there is nothing worse than the taste of seed thru your lovely tasteing buds................

on the subject of hermies, if you get them can you just cut off the male/hermie part of the plant and continue to flower as if it were a pure female and just keep cutting off the male parts as they appear?

I have heard of it being done but it takes a lot of time and patience to keep it up and if you miss one flower or get there too late to check you are going to have a very seedy crop/plant, most growers won't risk it and rip them out as they would a male, you can cook or make hash with them after you give them the chop though.
