GERMINATING SEEDS

ive been germinating some seed for abou 4 days now and nowts been happening and i got 2 of em and gave em a little squeeze and all this white gunk came out can any 1 tell me why

 

to germinate i wrapped em up in some wet toilet roll and some bin liner put them on my set top box for warmth

there a few ways you can do it the simplest is just putting them in a glass of water and letting them pop and form a tail or what ya can also do is get a plate put about 4 sheets of toilet paper or tissue on the bottom wet that put ya seeds on it and cover with 4 more sheets of tissue and wet again but i always put a bowl upside down on mine so that the water dont evaporate quickly

the seeds have rotted. this can be caused by too much moisture, especially if they dry after they have cracked, and are rewatered. they may have been a bit to warm which wouldn't have helped.

This is all i do..

 

Got some cotten wet it lay seeds on top......

 

And then cover it with another layer...and moisten...put in warm place..

 

Or put in a glass of water any way works well.

Be patient, sometimes they can take over a week to breach the surface

 

For germination all I do is put the seed in a glass of water for a few hours then plant it directly into a pre-wettened rockwool cube, 100% germination rate so far and it doesn't get any easier

I have to agree with notdave, direct sowing after soaking is a pretty darn easy way to go.

 

Transplanting germinating seeds isn't particularly conducive to plant health, especially if you get rough with em.

 

Give them time, a nice spot that's just room temp (20-25) and you should be laughing.

 

Some prefer the cotton wool, some prefer direct sowing, I fall into the latter. I'd suggest soaking some cubes or seed raising mix, (depends on how you plan to grow em in the future) draining them well and then planting the seeds about 1cm deep into the media. A piece of coarse perlite I find makes an excellent cap for the hole in the rockwool cube. You sometimes have to make the hole larger, but it depends on the seed size and what cubes you get on the day really.

g'day; why are dope seeds the only type of seed to be germinated in cotton wool or glass of water?

i put seed into rockwool cube (dry) then i give 1st water with hot tap water (as hot as the tap will produce) then place cubes under fluoro light for 18/6, i get average 80%-90% success rate with 5 year old seeds.store seeds in airtight container in fridge.....handle germinating seeds as little as possible.

is the hot water because they're stored in the fridge ?

 

i like this idea , im sick of soaking fucking rockwool for 12-24 Hrs

 

funny thing , i found and old cube , popped a seed into the dry old stinky cube, then waterereded.....

 

 

24 hrs-48 sprouted ........phew
