Bucket Bongs on the Terrace

Perth's Adelaide Terrace (turns into St Georges Terrace past Victoria Ave) is home to many corporate cannabis users. Some duck out the back for a quiet joint after work, some smoke in the alleyways on the way to their Friday Beer'o'Clock local, some just toke openly while walking down the Terrace at lunchtime or on the way home. Nobody really cares, it's not uncommon and a quick glance around usually reveals smirks and winks as our favourite bouquet wafts on the air.

But this week, a bucket bong was found in the toilet cistern of the building where I work  Building management aren't too happy (or knowledgeable) and sent out an email to all tenants asking for the activity to be stopped. Among those tenants are the Police's Special Crimes Squad and the Major Fraud Investigation Squad.

About a month ago I was leaving work late one night, and as I got in the lift a grin spread across my face. The entire lift shaft reeked! I laughed to myself and went on my way. With the bucket discovery in the outdoor toilet/shower facilities, it dawned on me that the industrial exhaust fans in the toilets (probably the main attraction of smoking in there, along with a locked door and constant use throughout the day by sports players) is probably extracting all of their air into the main venting system inside the building :toke: Apparently they've been having problems with some of the basement's fire alarms for a while now :scratchin:

I still can't stop laughing about this, just picturing one of our desperate friends doing buckets in a toilet cistern at lunchtime brings tears to my eyes. And no, it wasn't me :toke: but good on 'em I say, they're a welcome addition to the Terrace Smokers Guild and hopefully it's given a few people a reason to think about cannabis and how widespread its use is - even by corporate suits on the Terrace, right under the nose of some of WA Police's finest :peace:

Here's the original email sent to tenants, with a photo of their discovery, then the article from Wednesday's Inside Cover of The West Australian:

Someone in Eastpoint Plaza in Adelaide Terrace can't get enough of the high life.

Not content with smoking dope at home, the pothead has taken to using a bong, right, to smoke dope in a toilet during work time using the bucket bong method.

An email copied to IC and supposedly sent to numerous staff in the building, claims the bong, a two-liter soft drink bottle with the bottom cut out, was discoverd in a

ground level "shower/toilet facility".

"This person has been hiding the bucket (sic) in the toilet cistern tank," it said.

It described how the pothead was using the cistern for the bucket part of the smoking process and why bucket bongs were so effective.

"All of this is an illegal act, and if we catch the person, the police will be informed," warned the email.

Which shouldn't be too hard because Eastpoint Plaza is home to the police special crime squad and the major fraud investigation squad.

The email's author suspects that because the toilet is locked after hours, "someone from Eastpoint Plaza is using this device during normal work hour (sic)".

"The soft drink bottle has had the bottom cut away, and one can see by the large amount of smoke residue on the neck and bottle top that this has been used often," it

said.

"I would respectfully ask that all persons working in Eastpoint Plaza be notified of this ... activity, and that it will not be condoned, and once found out, will be

stopped immediately by lawful intervention."

Perry Brown, from the building's manager Jones Lang LaSalle, said news of the dunny dope smoker was a mystery to him. "I'm the property manager and I've heard nothing

about it," Perry told IC.

Might be time to check the smoke alarms.
