Curing

Hi Fishee,

From what i've read (though i haven't had the chance to try it myself) it all depends on what you want from your smoke. The better you dry it, and the longer it cures, the better the smoke (if this is wrong someone will correct me). So what i'd like to do (when my time finally comes) is to take different samples at different times (as the buds ripen), that way i can see which sort of high i like the most, ie is it when the pistals are sill mostly white, is it when they've got a bit of colour, etc, then let these cuttings dry and cure, so next time i'll be able to take the whole plant at the same time, and hopefully have superb bud :-)

Course i don't have a separate drying area (i'll be drying where i flower), so what i will hafta do, is chop the whole plant, let it dry for 2 weeks, then cure it (place it in air tight jars, or paper bags for a few more weeks/days).

Here's some links from overgrow.com that might help too.

Hope this helps.

I trim the leaf and then I hang the branches for around two weeks, when properly dried I remove the buds and store them in Tupperware containers.

It depends on the space you have available. It's ultimately best to hang the whole plant in the dark

or at least wholebranches with all the fan leaves still on it for the first 5days. This is because the fan leaves will curl around the bud, protecting the crystals from handling and any light. Then after 4 or 5 days the branches can be cut off, the fan leaves trimmed and then hung for another day or two. On day 7 you cut the buds from the branches, providung they are dry - you will feel a snap in the centre of the bud. They will feel over dry to touch, but that's what you need for the next step. Put all the cut bud in glass jars - the ones with the rubber ring around the top that clamp down and seal them away in the dark. (Put a little aside so you don't dip into the curing pot. It will be harsh to smoke right now, but I know you're hanging to get stoned)

The longer you can leave them like this the better, but at least two weeks is needed, preferably a month.

During this time the buds will soften up. Open the jar to air it out once a day, as this will prevent any built up moisture turning your buds mouldy.

Main Point - Keep it in the dark throughout the process.

The buds will continue to use up all their stored chlorophyll and go darker. Chlorophyll gives the bud a green homegrowntaste. This whole process is long,

but if you have the patience you will be rewarded with the smoothest most potent bud you have ever gown.

To illustrate the difference, each a ripe peach, and a green one. Notice anything?
