Whats your tap water PPM?

Recommended Posts

buffering what? Do you find it easier to balance PH when tap water is added?

Yeah, it's still reading 0.0, but it's a lot more stable as there's a small proportion of hardness there to buffer the pH swings.

Let me put it this way. When I add silikamajic to pure RO it jumps to 10. When I add nutes it drops back to 3. pH crashing is fuuuuun. :(

It's still far and away the purest water I can find though. It's just a little hard to sort out when I don't add the 1:10 tap to RO ratio. That and plants do actually have a need for minute amounts of chlorine and sodium, which is so small it's not even added to nutrient solutions. :( The main reason is the crashing though.

I've also diluted my pH down and up to help with this, 5mL of each in a 2L coke bottle.

I still couldn't be happier. Since I've been using RO I've had little to no salt build up on the surface of my orchid media (in the greenhouse) and I'm certain my plants are growing much happier as a direct result.
