Whats your tap water PPM?

Recommended Posts

What is your local tap water PPM?

I have a bluelabs truncheon and the lowest it measures it 140ppm on the .700 scale.

Should I do all my measurements on the .500 or .700 scale? What is the difference?

I think my water is around 90-140ppm because if I add abit of salt or something to it, then it registers but normally it doesn't register because I think it is lower than the metre can read (140ppm)

Anyone know about this? What is your local tap water and general area?

Hi stonedstump.

Mine EC strait from the tap is lowest reading EC= 0.2 or ppm = 140 (CF=2).

varies occassionally to EC= 4 (ppm = 280 & CF = 4)

Brand is Hydropnics Industries (NZ)

All the measurements are conversions. So it won't matter wich you go by ppm's or EC or CF. I never exceed EC = 2.0

okay thanks everyone

well I thought I had a low EC because it doesnt even register on my truncheon unless I add abit of salt into the water.

I wish I could measure lower to get a proper reading but the LED bluelabs truncheon only goes down to .2 or 140ppm

I have to add a pinch of salt to a standard glass of water to get it to read anything, so would that mean my normal EC is actually below 50ppm??

Thanks for the replies and by the way Im on the east coast of Queensland my water supply comes from the mountains though and pumped to town.

If your truncheon measures nothing, then there's less than 0.2 ec in there.

My tap water is 0.8ec, or 560ppm. It can go as high as 0.9 but rarely as low as 0.7.

The 500 scale is for measuring potassium, and the 700 scale is for measuring sodium. Most Aussies are used to the 700 scale if they use ppm as a measure.

The only true readings you'll ever get which are a direct measure is e.c. All the others are conversions from this reading of conductivity.

Due to the crap nature of my water, I have Reverse Osmosis which brings the water down to 0. I add 1:10 tap:RO to help with buffering capacity, and that doesn't even register on the truncheon until I get to 1:2.25 tap:RO.
