Building a cool tube setup

Recommended Posts

You can buy Zeolite at most large gardening nurseries or well stocked garden supplies.

Bunnings sells it but from memory it was about $10kg

Nurseries sell it for about $15kg.

It is used as a soil conditioner much like gypsum, and is a naturally occuring volcanic mineral.

I use 1-2kg in my filter, depending on requirement. The filter tray would be 450mm x 300mm and has a vinyl "skirt" around the edges so it only draws air through the bottom. (See pic early in thread)

I started using it first for fish tanks when setting up as if you use it in your filter it also removes ammonia, which is very toxic until the good bacteria has a chance to build up. It can be washed in a salty solution to "recharge" for continued use.

I still use carbon in my fish tank but only to remove tannins as I breed catfish and have a lot of wood in my tanks.

Hope that helps......
