Type of globe - Universal/Cool/Warm

Recommended Posts

Thanks nitram :peace: I've already found that graph on the sunmaster site too

Hi Luke. I can't afford another light atm so i'm sticking with my MH.

I will be buying a sunmaster globe this time, not sylvania. I'm thinking I'll just get a neutral globe because as you have said and as the graph shows for that globe, the spectrums (blue and red) are equaled out pretty good.

I was thinking that just using the specific spectrum (cool or warm, two globes) for each stage would increase yield but perhaps not really.

I'll use the globe I have for vegging and within 3 or 4 weeks I will have my new NEUTRAL globe ready for flowering. That will save me buying two globes and should turn out pretty much the same (yield wise), yes??

I bought the light second hand (quite cheap mind you) so I dont know how old the globe is, apart from saying its bright which as you said doesnt mean anything.

I'm pretty sure I've got the 1100w ballast (how do I tell the difference between a 1000w and 1100w ballast? there are no model numbers written on it. It's heavy though.

:peace:

It should have something written on it regarding it's wattage. It should also have at least a sunmaster ballast label somewhere... I wouldn't normally recommend opening a ballast if you don't know what you're doing but provided you don't touch or play with anything, the coil-core should have written on it what the specs are.

I think if you have a 1000w globe and it works you have a 1000w ballast. I doubt a 1000w would work in a 1100w ballast. Can't be completely sure on that though, as I'm not a sunmaster user, but I would assume so.

Yeild is dependent on other factors in the room, but you should do better with a new globe than you would with an old one.

I'd say get the neutral sooner rather than later, and you'll be much more likely to do well in the lighting department. Old globes can be god-knows how old, and therefore possibly not as good as they could be.

It has rivets holding the case on so I dont want to take it apart, not that I would anyway.

It just has sunmaster written on it with all the colours and a plant sort of thing but I'd say it's the 1000w one then.. I didn't know they made 1100w globes.. how come no one on here has one?

I will buy a neutral globe then and it will be sunmaster brand this time not sylvania. That should work really well for veg and flowering I hope :peace:.

I don't understand why you're buying a new bulb when you already got a MH? This is a personal grow right? That 1000watt MH should give you more bud then you know what to do with if you get the rest of the grow right. The key is to make your room big enough to take advantage of that light.

I mean if you got the spare money and want a MARGINALLY better bulb then fair enough, but you are not getting value for money IMO. there are a lot of factors that will effect the yield of this grow, and I'd say the LEAST important factor will be the choice between your MH and buying a new Sunmaster globe.

hi

firstly there are 1100w sunmaster ballasts/globes and there are 1000w sunmaster ballast/globes.

i have the 1100 w ballasts and i use the WARM 1100 globe. it works great in veg. and i would highly recommend it if you are going to use it for bloom also.

in relation to using a 1000w globe in an 1100 watt ballast - yes it will work - but it wont output the maximum potential of the globe. i have confirmed this with sunmaster. so if you have a 1100 watt ballast make sure you get the 1100 watt globe (they now come in small jackets btw).

i used to use only 1000 w hps for flower. last crop i mixed the 1100 w warm deluxe with 1000w hps EURO's and the results were great.

another way is to use the MH up until the first 2 weeks of flower (this will keep the nodes tigher and less stretch when u go 12/12). then switch to the HPS - then some argue go back to the MH for the last week.

forgot to add that the 1100 w sunmast ballast is big. it is alot bigger than the 1000w ballasts i have (made by macro power). have never seen a 1000w wunmaster ballast so not sure if there the same size as the 1100 w ballast. but ill check for you later if there is anything written on the ballast which distinguishes it as an 1100w ballst. i think there is but cant remember now
