differing root systems?

Recommended Posts

I've only grown two sets of seedlings before (usually use clones), but at such an early stage, does it really matter how vigorous your plants are? In the past, I'd just let them do their thing, giving them relatively little light (CFLs only tho) and no breeze (they were in a clone chamber, so it would have been tough). Once they developed a few sets of true leaves I'd start up the fan for stem strength, start nuting, and throw em into their final resting place, the Ebb and Flow tray with either the 1kw HPS or 400w CFLs. My stems always seem to end up around the width of a 50 cent coin (dunno what it's actually called) on a 3 foot plant.

I've also found that it's much too easy to give seedlings/clonelings enough light to permanently stunt their growth, but it sounds like I use more watts than you guys.

Good luck, keep on growing. BTW how you got so many seeds? Did you buy them online or are they from bags?

It might be worth your time and money to invest in some of those A'dam seeds at this point. Guaranteed to be some of, if not the best weed you'll ever smoke. Growing out bagseed, especially if you plan on selling (which I'm inferreing you will be since you've got so many plants germing) only hurts the general quality of weed around, setting everyone back a bit. Additionally, bagseed only comes from hermied plants, so the chances of the offspring being hermied are increased (so I've heard).

My efforts at sprouting are strictly practice. The seed I have are obviousely very old. After starting 20 seeds in peat plugs I get 2 or 3 sprouts. At this point I have 2 seedlings. used a drop of liquid fert to ro water which put the water in a good ph range. I punched holes in styro foam cups, filled half with a 30% perlite 70% peat mix. fairly soaked this mix set the plugs on top then filled the void with this dry mix. I have 2 , 40 watt Ott grow bulbs and 2 CF bulbs as close as possible. The 2 CF bulbs put out different colors. One seems yellow while the other is more white in color. I assume this is providing a wide color spectrum. I have a small fan that gently shakes the two seedlings the 1st 24 hrs I lighted 18 hrs 6 hrs dark then went 24 hrs lighting. the stems are 1.5 inches with 1 set of real leaves. After 72 hrs there is not much change. I don't know if transplanting the sprouts to slightly larger containers and light has helped or hindered growth. over all the seedlings look healthy. Can I assume the seedlings are growing a root system beyond the peat plug and or adjusting to the light? I'm concerned that I don't have anough light. If the stems get longer without any growth in the leaves, I will assume the lighting is not anough.

MAt Man I have anough bag seed to fill a cigarette pack

:peace: I now have 6 seedlings! This bag seed I have must be very old. I had 5 at the beginning and put them out back. The squirrels got all but one which I saved by putting a rubber snake in the pot! :peace:. I just started soaking around 100 seeds hoping for more sprouts . Maybe out of all these I may end up with a couple different strains. So far it's to early too see any differing leaf shapes.

Also I have 2, 250 watt MH fixtures with 10k bulbs. Would these be ok for vegging young plants?

I put the biggest two seedlings under the 250 lamp just now. both sprouted the 15th I think. They have 3 sets of leaves or nodes is the right term. They are about 20 inches under the lamp with the 10 K bulb. It's about 6 months old so . I didn't want to fire up the 1000watt lamp untill I get a little cash in my wallet. to buy some ventilation or an ac unit, that thing will melt the paint off the walls! I'm just playin around here untill the 14th and payday. Oh back to my original query, The oldest survivor from the squirrels has 5 sets of leaves now it seems they are short and wide compared to the other plant's longer narrow leaves.
