A new hormone has come out for selfing, its called elitexelite and is meant to be alot better and also less toxic, you can get it from Heavens Stairway seed, and probably alot of hydro stores. I bought some but haven't had the chance to use it.

When using gibrellic acid, does this make the seeds the same as the mother plant, ie. as if it were backcrossed? Or does it still display different many different phenotypes???

it is probably better than backcrossing in most cases. Backcrossing requires very good male selection and many generations to turn out like mum. And if your backcrossing to make recessive traits true breeding you can only ever have 85% of individuals showing the recessive trait ( although 95% of plants have the recessive gene).

Anyway selfing (breeding a female with itself) will only produce offspring like mum if mum is true breeding for all the traits you are interested in. In most cases her kids will show 2 phenotypes for every trait she is true breeding. If youre gonna try selfing use a stable strain like skunk or afghani.

Males are good things, every breeder needs males for strain improvement. Although you dont want it when you buy seeds, diversity is important to make new interesting strains. inbreeding is amoral.
