What's wrong with my understanding of hydro?

Recommended Posts

Thanks a lot, guys. I'm going to be sorting out the tray, then hydro, then lights, then putting it in a box.

Here's the general plan as it stands:

So first I'm going to buy a tray with proper media, put the plants in, and water them. Then I'm going to get a tank, tubes, and a water pump, then pump that through. Then I'm going to add nutrients and get the consistency right, then I'm going to add an air pump. After that's fine, I'm going to figure out which lights I need, then put them in a box with a fan.

looks ok to me mate.

there are simpler hydro systems than nft. a bubbler is not only simpler but will use less head height so are perfect for compact grows, and you don't need a water pump....

but if you got your heart set on this system good luck with it. I don't think I've ever seen an nft grow on this site before.

Beans?

Never be ashamed of who you are mate.

Look at George W.

Kids from poor areas join the army because they have no better way to support themselves.

Then George & his mates invest all their $ in companies that get defense contacts.

So they sit back and rake in the flow while the 18yo kids go and do their killing while defense contactors like the Carlisle group, which owns united defense make profits of like 250 million US in 1 day!

And he still runs the planet!

You’re supposed to be a bad guy for growing some pot and smoking it?

Be proud bro ;)

I'm not familiar with bubblers, is that like an ebb and flow system or just another way to pump the water up?

Okay, for all the people winking about the 'beans', I've already said this so you can stop giggling. I'd love to grow weed sometime in the future, I don't agree with the law, persecution or stigma regarding it now. I do, however, still live at home and it is still illegal, so I'm not going to grow it when the responsibility of my actions would fall upon anybody else but me. As for beans, yeah they are beans, but I gotta practice on something - even if I did live on my own, I wouldn't start out by growing pot, I'd at least test the system on something small, cheap and easy. So, yes - if this works out, I will be putting what I've learnt to use for growing weed in the future, but not now.

The thing is, what works for one plant may not necessarily suit the one you're planning to grow. Keep in mind that MJ is bloody large when it gets going.

Try growing something like tomatoes. These are large enough to compare size requirements.

And yeah, I'd have to say that a bubbler or simpler recirculating media based system would do you better. NFT is prone to failure and is also quite sensitive to temperature.

do a search on bubblers both on this site and on google. You should find plenty of info.

Basically you have a small netpot with clay balls that the plant sits in in the lid of a bucket, that bucket has a nutrient solution in it with an airstone in the bottom. Thats basically it. ;)

They're also good for cupboard grows because bubbler pots don't need to be elevated (as they need to be in most other hydro systems) so you save on head height. For micro growing they are the best choice IMO.

A quick run down on what a bubbler is a bucket in most casers ppl use 20lt buckets and you place an air stone on the bottom of the bucket and hook it up u then get a net pot and cut a hole in the lid of the bucket and place the net pot in the hole put ya plant in with some clay balls fill ya bucket with water and then add ya nutes place lid on bucket with net pot and plant turn on air pump and light and u are up and running with a bubbler, this is just a quick run down on it.

Cheers

ozmade.

Sorry it took so long to reply. I looked up some articles on bubblers, am I correct in my understanding that:

You get a bucket, cut some holes in it, put cups in the holes [with holes cut in the sides of the cups to let water through], then fill the bucket with water until its going halfway up the cups, then you put an air pump into the bucket and on top of the air pump release you put an airstone?

Then you plant the seeds separately, grow them into seedlings, then transplant them into clay balls inside the cups?
