Imports Vs Aussie Strains

Recommended Posts

G'day dudes: my first post here!!

I'm a small outdoor grower have been for the last 6 years.

I'm interested to find out how your experiences with growing Aussie strains & overseas strains have turned out.

Over the years I've grown:

Yr 1: Aussie Sativas; Hydro Indicas

Yr 2: Sativa Crosses of some type

Yr 3: Crimson Wowie (a homegrown strain given to me by a friend)

Yr 4: Skunk (from overseas)

Yr 5: Bushfires

Yr 6: This time I'm trialling 3 strains:

-Coogee Red

-BL

-North Coast Bush

I found that the Skunk, even though the smoko was totally mind-blowing, didn't take as well as the Aussie strains. It took a lot of extra effort to keep it healthy.

Mostly me & my friends get our seeds out of weed we buy & just grow that. Generally they turn out OK. We've only had hermaphrodites once in six years.

The best strain we've had so far was a sativa called "Crimson Wowie". This plant started off & got tipped heaps of times. Around about January we took 5 clones; four took.

After planting one in the ground and the rest in pots, this clone went totally mental and grew to 9-10 ft before it started heading.

The mother plant grew to about 6 feet, with twenty main stems. These, after heading had to be staked they were so heavy.

Total yield, from 5 plants, was roughly 20 ounces.

The gear was mind-blowing. One time after smoking 4 cones of it my vision disappeared and I walked into a wall cuz I couldn't see.

What are your experiences with Aussie and imports?

Where do you get your seeds? Do you buy them, get given them, or get em out of bags of weed you smoke?

Cheers mates.

:D! ::P: that sentence got me laughing heheh...

anyway welcome to the 420 site Valley Villian... :P

Sounds like you are talking about outdoor strains....

Some of my mates get outdoor strains from overseas, the best one one of my mates claimed for outdoor grown, he grew "Malawai Gold" was from this company called African Seeds, they have interesting outdoor stavia strains worth checking out.... but you gotta becareful with importing *illegal* products these days due all this "terrorist" crap....

I am more of indoor grower.... I used order seeds from canada/holland, and they werent that good.... wasn't impressed in most cases.... they seemed to be not all idential some looked more sativa and some looked more indica sided.... they seemed weak.... and have them poor ratings at www.seedbankupdate.com

Since I have discovered Aussie seed banks I have been a happy camper and they are more honest and never had any problems and they seem to be "stronger and better" in the geneics....

I think its worth you checking out Aussie seedbanks and see if they can help you with strains for outdoor growing, and there's less risk when you order with aussie borders.....

hope helps a bit mate, sorry ....

hey there valley villain....

for years, i grew from bag seeds, not knowing what i had, but recently developed more interest in cannagentics and decided to do it properly...in my search for seeds, i visited many o/s sites freaking at the prices and feeling unsure about legal issues...having found a couple of great seedbanks here in oz, i cannot praise them enough....really helpful, patient and understanding....and being located in oz, eases the paranoia about mail...will definately deal with them wherever possible...so, i would have to say that variety here is great, prices are good and people are friendly...oz seedbanks most definately ....

Aussie strains will go better in aussie than imports. Darwins theory of evoloution. Australia is one of the few countries in the world with every climate except arctic. Tropical plants will go well in the tropics Cold weather plants ie from holland will tend to go better in the cold ie Tassie. Once a strain is grown anywhere the seeds taken off that plant will adapt to that climate better than the mother. Sometimes in the case of plants with weak genetics nothing will improve it.The main problems are the root systems, mould resistance and bud density. Root systems tend to come in two different types one is like a moths antenna a tap root with fine fibres coming off it these fibres will break and introduce bacteria, funguses and root rot if grown in the wrong conditions. They tend to like cooler moister climates the roots dont have to travel as far and the fine antenna can absorb massive abounts of water. In drier hotter climates the better plants tend to have long stringy tap roots that will travel to find water. They are stronger and tend not to break as easily. Australia being a dry climate there tends to be a lot of rainfall at some times of the year but stuff all at other times. The top end only has two seasons wet and dry and the other end ie NSW and Vic will get a lot of rain coming into winter just after the buds have grown. If they arent mould resistance and the buds have grown nice big and dense the water will gather on the inside and cause mould to grow rotting the bud from the inside out. The same thing will happen to hydro crops if the humidity is too high. As much as I hate it spraying is usualy the only way around a lot of this mould problems outdoor only. Growers outdoor only get one crop a year. They can lose their whole crop in one week. The only way to spray safely is to do it BEFORE the buds start to grow.If used before, the buds will grow after the spray has gone. The selection of a proper spray is essential it has to come from a natural source or it will not break down cleanly. One of my mates on the south coast of NSW has a nicotine based one. This ends up being a race and doesnt kill the mould but delays it. He has an organic asparugus farm that has been certified organic for about 12 years. Indoors install a big inlet and outlet fan.For spider mites drop your temprature to under 20 cetergrade at night or even lower for better resuluts under 10 becomes detramental and they will simply be unable to breed.
