Customs officers at Melbourne Airport have discovered cannabis resin hidden in play dough containers.

It was discovered during air cargo examinations on May 23, when Customs opened a package from India, which had been declared as "baby toys".

Two tubs inside the package were found to contain a dark resinous substance that initially tested positive for cannabis.

A second package was intercepted a day later, and the substance inside also tested positive for cannabis.

A 25-year-old man from Caulfield in Melbourne's south-east will face court on charges including the importation of a border controlled drug.

He will appear in court in August.
