Police are seeking information from anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious in the area or who may have knowledge of the plantation.

Drug bunker found

Friday, 12 May 2006

CANNABIS worth more than $160,000 on the streets has been seized from a hydroponics set-up in an underground drugs den.

Kyneton Police Senior Constable Ben McCauley said a man from a Melbourne electricity company had to shut the power off so police could safely enter the booby-trapped lair on the outskirts of Kyneton.

Police seized six plants in the haul.

A 46-year-old man will appear in Broadmeadows Magistrates Court today on charges including cultivating a commercial quantity of cannabis, theft of electricity and setting a man trap.

Sen-Constable McCauley said police intelligence led to the issuing of a warrant to search the bunker at 9.45 am on Tuesday.

Five police, a Victoria Police botanist and crime scene photographers were at the bunker with the electricity worker.

"We found it within 10 minutes of getting there," Sen-Constable McCauley said.

"It took about an hour to open."

The power had to be shut off first.

"There was an electricity by-pass installed on the property, diverting electricity," Sen-Constable McCauley said.

"The doorway into the hydroponic set-up was wired up with an electric force mechanism."

Sen-Constable McCauley said the bunker had been planned on the property.

"It was purpose-built," he said.

The opening was about 600mm square.

Access to the water tanks containing the cannabis plants was via a ladder.

Sen-Constable McCauley travelled to the Melbourne suburb of Reservoir and arrested a 46-year-old man.

He was charged at 12.30am on Wednesday with one count of cultivating a commercial quantity of cannabis, one of possessing a trafficable quantity, another count of possession, theft of electricity and setting a man trap.

The man was remanded in custody when he appeared in Castlemaine Magistrates Court later that day.

He is expected to make a bail application when he appears in Broadmeadows Magistrates Court today.

A Melbourne drugs squad expert said the cannabis seized in the raid was worth about $52,000 at a wholesale price and $95,000 if sold on the streets in ounces.

The value would rocket to about $160,000 if it was sold in grams.

Of all the awful writing I've ever read, this is amongst the peak of it. Top of the shit pile without doubt. The "journalst" who wrote the article regarding the 6 plants worth 160 000 bux I'm speaking of especially.

Of course gross exageration of prices is somthing we've come to take in our stride when reading this nonsense, but selling your own gear on the streets in gram deals? In fact anyone taking it of his hands and getting rid of it all in that fashion is highly profound to consider.

But that's not my point, check out the high school level of creative writing ...

Bet his mother was happy having to bail him out!
