SWC Stealth

Recommended Posts

Hey Guy's I'm new to these parts you could call me an OG refugee looking for a new home!!

Now I have a very small stealth box in my basement it is divided into a flower area 750l x 700w x 850h and a Verge/mother box 350l x 700w x 650h in the flower box I have a 250w son t and in the vege box i have 4x18w 2ft fluros. I have had many successful soil grows in here at one stage I had a perpetual grow going where i was harvesting 6 plants about 2oz every month with a mix of Nirvanas Misty & K2 I trusted someone to look after my plants while I was away for a month and what did he do budded out all my plants even the mothers and practically killed my strains  he won't be trusted again!!!! I did not really mind as the strains were pretty average and I really want to go hydro. So I have set up 3 SWC bins they are 20 litre storage boxes from the whoo house as you can see in the pic I like my gadgets :bleh: each tank has a water heater and 3x 16" air stones powered by 2 outputs from a air pump (also in the photos).

Now the tanks are 175 high and the net pots sit 75 into the tank so if i need to keep the net pot out of the water that will only leave me 100mm of water which would probably suck dry in a day so I need a header tank aye :peace: ;) does any one have any info on header tanks do I need to find some micro sized float valves or would I be able to use the suction technique in an air tight container?? my main concern there is if bubbles get into the header tank it will empty out and flood my Grow box and basement :bleh:

Hey Bubbles! Welcome to the sesh mate. You need Chato by the looks of things. Pretty sure he vegs in boxes like those.

You might need to have a control tank at the same level as the SWC's. Have a float valve in it and self level the 3 boxes. Then feed the control tank from a seperate res, thro the float valve.

Was wondering maybe if you had room to stack another box on top of each, with the bottom cut out? Lose some head height, but make it more DWC?

Best of luck with it mate, very interested to see how you go. Nice tidy show

Hey Mullaway thanks for dropping by, I wish I could give them a bit more depth but I struggle keeping them away from the light as it is. So will have to work out a header tank, I like your idea of a feeder tank with the float valve there is an area under the vege compartment where I could fit that then link the 2x flower boxes, then make another feeder tank for the vege tank under the seed raising heat pad so that could work.

Has any one tried the system where a res can be above the box with a pipe running into the tank at the desired water level, if the system is kept air tite it should atomatically keep the tank at the desired level.

I am concerned that with the bubbles running it might get into the tank and force the water out. There must be some toking hydro engineers or plumbers out there!!
