Air stones - Help please

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone.

I need some information air stones.

I know about the different types there are, such as sandstone, ceramic etc.

What I need to know mainly is just what size you would all recommend to me for a 25L bucket DWC system?

I am running a 9500cc pump and have only purchased a small round sandstone airstone, probably about 5 inches across.

I haven't started my grow yet, I'm still getting the gear together that I need. So thought I'd ask on here of course!

*What type and size of airstone do YOU use? (how much water is it in also please)

*What would you recommend to me for each 25L bucket and an 80L DWC res?

*Any other info/tips appreciated very much

I await your replies  :applause:

it is more the amount of air your pumping in there that makes a large difference those small stones can pump out a fair bit of air if they have a good pump attached to it

I have used a few types , and in the end it's not gonna make that much of a difference provided you have a decent air pump, find somehtign that covers the area of your bucket best and go with that

the best I think are the air tubes.... they can be bought at any aquarium shop and can be shaped to fit anything... they cost about $10 each, but last for ages.... daiyang I think they are called....

How ever I am not sure if they would serve for DWC.... from what Ive seen the airstones sort of gets lost in all the roots.... might be a hassle to get it back.... but they are the best....

Also, years ago I had plastic ones that screwed together to any size you need, they can be pulled apart for cleaning and last forever too, they also take a bit of punishment.....might be worth trying to track them down.... pet shops should have them....

Hi treestump,

Ive used all kinds and as PURE said its more about the pump its self power wise. Those bubble curtins are good in fish tanks but according to canna there nutes break down the plastic.

Ive used ceramic stones there alot better that the blue stones they dont fall appart within a monthup until recently when i changed over to 100% cleanable and reusable plastic ones there ajustable to the size of bubbles.

I might have a pic some where.

i was buying new stones monthly as they would loose the connection or bresck seal when cleaning.

I use an 8 outlet pump running 2 to 4 stones which seems to be more than enough for 200lt res.

there are new ones at shops made with weeping hose but full of glue.

OK found a pic think there called Atlas stones they should be taken apart and cleaned with a tooth brush fortnightly or even weekly with PK in the nute mix.

SukonmiSkunk, I have that problem to but at $2 50 i buy more. Often if there not scewed together tight the air vibrates them apart and you end up with heaps of noise of the bubbling hose.

I like them they do block allitle easier but if you make cleaning apart of weekly cleaning there sweet, I use them with all the peices =it seems to make bigger bubbles than the stones.

Also the lead wieght is a good idea as they would float without.

Where to get west of the island Vebas fish supplies.

otherwise any good aquarium shop as there very popular with fish tanks.
