help a new grower :]

ok. my room is set up. i will be using a closet about 2.5' x 4' x 8'.

would this mean the sq. ft would be 10?

 

anyways, i wil be growing with fluros aiming for stealth but i know this will cause heat probs.

i have 4 shoplites running about 300 true watts.

 

i have small fan i the closet pointed down toward the shoplites. i would love to run them 24/0 because im looking for a high yield cosidering they arent powerful lighting.

 

ok problems :

one of my ballast is HOT , i may replace it.. as it isnt a lights of america shoplite (which i find stay cooler).

So your stuck with those spectrum bulbs. Personally and honestly: none really will get you over the line in any spectacular shape. They will keep you plant alive, but only to a pioint. As for microbuds

Yes - a couple of small fans (ie PC fans) may help but it's "air exchange" your lookinng for.

Your light(s) should not run too hot would they ?

 

Why would you be overheating the closet at night . I'm presuming thats the coolest time & that's when you have your lights on. So your plant light stops you from sleeping if it's on and the cupoard door open at night !

:: just the one fluro ballast/lamp the bulbs are ok i think. in the closet the air is really warm maybe 85 f and since im growing fluoro, heat stress would take over since i keep them 2 inches close to the lamps. ::

Hi IAMX.

Mate give them all you got for veg. If you want, go 24hrs too. 18/6 is good too, everything grows better with some rest

 

To vent the cupboard, you need to exchange the air like nitram said. You can do this ok with one fan on exhaust. Perhaps leave it on the whole time lights are on, set it up, up high venting out. Also have a filtered inlet air hole down low. As the exhausting air is extracted, fresh air can be drawn in passively.

Other way is to have a second fan, for intake air.

 

Ok what else do I think you need? A more open attitude toward friendly suggestions

Some perlite mixed with your neutral soil for better drainage.

The 5-1-1 you have sounds fine for veg yep. Tis tru it might smell a bit tho.

So you'll be after some flowering nutes, perhaps consider a worm wine concentrate. Look for any available organic liquid fert with high K. Can try to boost with seasol. Or hang the 'completely' organics and boost with PK 13/14.

 

Try out the fluros mate. You might need some down low too in 12/12. But it's your garden, to grow in as you please. But I guarantee you wont look back once you change to hps. More likely you'll keep looking toward higher wattages

You seem to have plenty of head room, if you want to reduce heat try putting a fan at the top with a bit of ducting on it to create and 'S' bend and putting an intake in the bottom will help the air move the right way too.

 

The bend will stop light getting out and allow air to travel freely. If you want to stop the bugs throw a bit of stocking over the hole.

I would also be fanning the fluro's from beneath them not above them, right now you are not only fighting nature by tryign to push hot air down , but you are also pushin thatg hot air into your cannopy,

 

swap that and you will find an imidiate change in the canopy temperature , but you are going to still want to add those smal fans for intake and exhaust , my sugestion would be to go and get one of the sunon 100 ml fans , they are small double ballbearing fans just like a decent pc fan , except they run off of standard power without wireing them yourself , and also because the air they pump out is MUCH greater , if you put one of these at the top , and just a hole at the bottom that would cover yoru air exchange , the MOST important thing to be swapping though is the fact your blowign your hot air down , swap that fan to bellow the tubes and watch the difference

i find that keeping the closet door closed at night isnt going to work :[ (temps up to 90 w/o lights on)

 

sooo i will find a way to keep it open 24/7, but thats another story..

do you think that people will wonder why a room is lit.. ppl will wonder why its ALWAYS ON? or is it more suspicious to seal off the windows of the bedroom as to not let the light coming from the closet leak out to plain view?

 

i feel like i need to seal the bedroom windows because i have the perfect growroom guys.. the bedroom has windows i could use for vent but i dont need them yet, it has a ceiling fan and the closet is perfect like ive mentioned. anyways sorry 4 rambling, just in a good mood! peace!

Heres whati would do is get a curtin or mini blinds for the window, cut a whole in the ceiling in the closet and vent there. i use nothing but fluoro for growing (veg and flowering) and i always get good results. yes you can get a better yeild with hps or mh no doubt about it but they are over rated ive gotten some yeild just as good if not better that hps or mh so it all depends on the grower and the enviroment the plant is growing in, my suggestion is get rid of the tubes and go with cfl all the way they dont get as hot as tubes cause they are over a large space and they put out more lumes, theyre just better all around.
