Is this Nute burn or lack of water?

Recommended Posts

i remember your grow now :P anyways imo the problem is more than likely a combination of having used water that wasnt properly pH tested, but imo the major factor to your problem is using pots that are far too small for those plants :P my plants have done the same to me in the past merely because they are rootbound so i highly suggest a transplant asap lol

Geeza, I would have to politely disagree. Just because a plant is root bound, it does not mean it can't be healthy. Take bonsais for example, they are what they are because they are root bound.

I have noticed that a very common problem amongst seedlings or newly rooted clones is that they lack phosphorus, evident by the purple stem, dying and yellowing lower leaves, and stunted growth.

Compare these 2 pics:

and

I reackon if New Holland took a regular light pic is would be even easier to see.

I had a similar problem when I started my last grow. I had no idea what to do, until I consulted your guide WDC... I hit them with some 3/4 strength bloom nutes and literally a couple of days later, they started to fly. I reackon alot of these veg nutes don't contains nearly enough phosphorus for the initial (very important) stages of growth.

Just my 2 cents.

hey NH,

Just having a look at these pics youve posted... they dont look too bad, in the first pic, the tip burning is an over dose of nutes, the little yellow looking plant looks like a sulfur dificiency, how ever in the second pic it doesnt look like enough, theres no tip burn but the plant does look a little pale..... could also be a sulphur diff.

when you feed do have any run off?? Im not too sure with the way youve gone, I am in hydro so I dont get these issues... but I can tell you that when you feed a good amount of run off is needed to stop salts from collecting in the medium... otherwise I would be giving a good flush with fresh water every 4 or so feeds...

plants in this stage use a lot of nitrogen, what are you feeding them???

also these will ned to be repotted soon so I suggest you do as some one has already suggested and use about %30 perlite in your medium mix..... mj needs good drainage and good run off.. salt build up really does fuck with them and the cleaner the medium the healthier the plants will look. they are only little and they will eventually come good....

You'll get something thro NH, it's all cool mate. Good fun, practice, experience, and some smashing fruit at the end lol

I'd say whats already been said too NH. It's good to hear that you'll repot. Do add some perlite if you can. Some other foods can help for in between feeds, if you mix them in the medium. Like humus, moo poo, worm cast, mush compost etc (store bought). That's if you decide to stay with soil. (amgrow make a nute I use here which is good too)

Best for the rest mate. :P

Flipster (and WDC) thanks for the tip on weak bloom nutes for stipling veg plants. :P

Ok then, this is going to be my plan of attack:

1> Repot them, it wont hurt (just my hip pocket) and alot of people have told me to do this. But this will be a week or two away until I have the money. Pots are about $8-$12 depending on size so that = $160-240. I'm gonna try local bakeries for cheap buckets and drill holes in the bottom for drainage. I myself dont think they're root bound. About 3 weeks ago I had two plants in one pot. So I dug one out and put it in it's own pot and there weren't that many roots. What's a good soil mix?. 1/4 Vermiculite 1/4 Perlite 1/2 nice dark soil?

2> Haven't been nuting becuase I was worried about nute burn. It's been 2 weeks since there last nute. When I water, I have very little run off. Next time I water (tomorrow arvo) I will give them a good flush to get rid of any excess salts

3> next nute will be in about 3-4 days time, after the soil has dryed out from the flush. I will furt with half strength Thrive (N) as pale leaves to me mean lack of N. Pale leaves stunted growth. With what flipster stated it could be Phosphorus. What nute should I use to add Phos?. I think Flipster has hit the nail on the head, because the plants are showing all the symptons he/she stated.

4> I gotta get my grow room up and running!

5> Have I forgotten anything?.

Just to let you all know, I don't get offended easy. If I've done somthing wrong just tell me straight out. My view is that I know nothing about growing. And I shouldn't take offence if some who's had experience telling me what to do. In short, you don't have to be tactfull JUST TELL ME lol

Hi NH

Any chance of a pic?

By now two weeks without food they would apreciate a medium strength feed 2.0 ec or half bottle directions.

I think you problems could be cause by overwatering and at first a bit strong with nutes. In soil or coco with no slow release food its important to feed often daily for best results once they get bigger, When i start cuts in coco i feed from day one a weak mix of 1.8ec for first week no run off but my pots are bigger Daily by hand.

On a plant thats small, small feeds work best in pots sized like yours feed/water around 200ml per 2 days 1.8ec. if pots are still wet 2 days later drop to 100ml or 150ml. Increase as plant grows in amount and strength. Dont aim for run off yet can do more damage, a weekly feed of just plain water will flush salt but keep ec low and often there should be little dramas

How old now?

I cant see that you have done anything wrong, Dont waste your money there isnt much to growing once you have good soil or hydro grow sorted.

Are you mixing nutes as you feed or have a res? if you have a res add a air stone and if hand watering think about upsizing pot to 10+litres and a 30% perlite mix in coco.

thc,

The pots wont hold more then 150ml anyway. If I wanted to add more then that I couldn't becuase they just wont hold it. I usually water every 2nd to 3rd day.

They are 5 weeks old. They didn't grow at all for about 3 weeks. I think what Flipster said might be right. They do have purple stems. But I don't know what nute to use to give them Phosphurous.

NH,

Purple stems can be caused by a few things, in summer my cuts do have pupple but come winter and low nutes it happens. Should be easy to fix(purple) with warmer waterings and an ec of 2.0. Ok you have small pots time to upsize can you pop most healthy out of pot if roots are white all is good but if brown/slimy or dry its been too wet or dry. Have the base of plant started to swell or discoloured

BIGGER POT

I use coco to replace soil , what ever soil you choose should have 30% perlite mixed in to try to prevent overwater and allow to dry between watering.

Its abit odd that they have not grown in 3 weeks, but if there was no food for them it would certinly slow them down, Dont just feed Phousphurous, you will get more dramas what you need is a balanced NPK nute used at medium ec and fed regulary.

Nutes any brand of nutes would get these plants growing but considering you ve had nute issues id go the better nutes like Canna, Duthch master, AN, Higen there are alot more but these nute i know are good.

As thc24 said above NH, go for an alround fertiliser. Adding just Phosphorus would probably cause more problems.

I don't think at that point I was aware that you weren't feeding them anything. Go easy on the nutes to start off with too.
