24/0, 23/1, 22/2, 21/3, 20/4, 19/5, 18/6, 17/7, etc

Hello,

 

I'm just wondering what makes 24/0 and 18/6 the 2 popular times for lights on and off during veg? At the moment I'm using 17/7. The reason being is that I try to keep lights on only when I am home, well as much as I can anyway.

 

Maximum daylight hours in Australia seem to be around thee 14.5 hrs a day mark on our summer solstice, so is bringing the veg light cycles down adversly affecting my plants? Assuming the strain I have isn't an indoor strain red for long light hours, or an outdoor from some crazily long daylight hours place in the world.

 

Also, do they really grow during the night? I'm thinking that 'night' forces us not to look at out plants too much (yes, I do check them a wee bit much when the lights are on ), so when the lights eventually come back on, we have just noticed more of a growth.

 

Any thoughts appreciated.

i do 18/6 only cause i need the 6 hours in the afternoon when its too hot to keep the lights off!

The light time you refer to 18.6, 20/4 and 24/0 are the most popular as tthes (under the right conditions and use) provide what has been show to be the optimal for growing pot. This is backed up by experience and trought growers testing performances targeting specific situational grows (ie. using diffeerent mediums, yield, health ect.)

 

Sure more light up to a limit of intensity means a faster grow at the expense of the health of a plant.

 

Everyone may have diferences in their preference which suits there circumstances, lifestyle, enviroment and needs (ie cloning & 'partinig strong').

I don't think anyone said that :it wouldn't work ...... [ just as well] .

 

Throug many thousands and perhap years of growers research and experience optimal health, yield, and providing the most economic outcome for the grower & plant has been a 'traditional' 12/12 flowering and 18/6 veging times.

 

Many growers use 20/4 (ie clone rooting). So it depends on the aims a grower has as to wheather they use any combo providing it is 24 hr cylcle. You can grow with 24/0 in veg & 12/12 to flower if you pay the bills and need it slightly faster for asome reason, but why would you.

 

 

Tell us a hypothetical grow situation (aims & objectives & enviroment info ) and we can be more specific and support our claims.

 

Many people have asked this question looking for hidden bennifits and many growers over many years have researched this light schedualling variations.

Yes. Healthy plants like a rest, or a period of osmosis cycling during undertaking photosynthinsis - its a plants life.

I always used to use 24/0 and found the plants faster growing than 18/6.

However a birdie got in my ear and said that the plants would be happier under 18/6 and they were spot on.

THe plants dont tend to stress as much, and they are happy as.

They just looked alot better. although it was a little slower.

 

The WORST thing you can do to a plant is alter its dark period all the time, it will stress the plant and may go hermi.
