Guns, drug haul shock police

POLICE accidentally stumbled on a weapons arsenal and two cannabis crops at a property at Port Gawler yesterday morning after a routine arrest of a man for breaching his parole.

 

Eleven assorted guns were found stashed beside the bed and in a wardrobe at the Shellgrit Rd property.

 

Police also found a hydroponic set-up with four cannabis plants in a bunker, camouflaged among hay bales in a horse stable.

 

A plantation of 37 plants surrounded by a corrugated iron fence was in the backyard.

 

Police, including STAR Group officers, went to the property at 7am yesterday to arrest the 27-year-old man on an outstanding warrant.

 

 

 

 

The man was also wanted for questioning over a shooting in November, 2004 at the Tea Tree Gully Hotel car park.

 

When police knocked on the door yesterday, the resident hid inside for 15 minutes, peering out of windows looking for an escape route.

 

Realising police had him surrounded, he finally surrendered unarmed at 7.15am. Police searched the house and found the arsenal, including double and single barrel shotguns, sawn-off .22 rifles, two taser guns, ammunition, a revolver and a can of pepper spray. Police also seized $10,000 cash and an amount of dried cannabis in a back room.

 

Chief Inspector Kym Zander, of Elizabeth police, said it was concerning the man had some of the firearms within arm's reach of his bed. "This house is on an insignificant dirt road in the outer metropolitan area and it is alarming - a normal law-abiding person who lives in Adelaide does not have this kind of operations," he said.

 

"If a lone police officer had knocked . . . , we could have had quite tragic circumstances."

Theres some freeks around thats for sure , alot of them dont even smoke it , its total profit .They can follow a set of instructions for hydro or get some tips when there inside and bam there of and prepared for a shoot out due to being paranoid and possibly on meth . Yeh it is the face of prohabition , theres some wackos out there . Organised crime is heavily involved in pot and those guys dont mind letting of rounds asian gangs particularly , its alot more profit than sweat shops . Alot of hydro that gets around all though cosmetically it looks good it hasnt matured properly , they hit it with the usual pk 13 -14 but the thc hasnt had a chance to build up so you get a good tasting smoke that looks good but not much strength , i bought some the other week that was so fresh it was about 5% moist was spewing but anyway live and learn , there just pumpin it out for the cash , where as when i grow a plant im out there with a magnifying glass waiting for the crystals to peak . Makes a big diff to the potency i find anyway .
