POLICE have discovered up to 1000 cannabis plants, some taller than 2m, in a South Australian national park.

Police discovered the plants last night at the Billiatt National Park, between Alawoona and Lameroo in the state's east.

Detectives estimated the number of plants at between 600 and 1000 and also found a campsite and watering system, police said.
