how old do u think this is?

its a sylvania 1000w MH lamp that has been floating around my house for the past few years it has finally come to some use as i just picked up a deal on ebay and all i need is the lamp how old do u think this one is by the pictures? im thinking not very old but could be wrong

so long as it fires up and burns OK thats all you want...ive come to the view that

they have a longer than quoted life-span and that one looks alright to me

Frazzle, i dont know where the bulb come from my brother brung it home a few years ago and put it away ever since im happy if it'll do a couple veg cycles :thumbsup

Going by the blackening at the base of the globe and the heat discolouration of its thread I would say it has had around two grows worth of work, you could probably squeeze a couple of grows out of it but I would be tempted to get a new globe and keep that one as a spare, the increase in yield form a new globe would make the cost more than worthwhile.

i hope the control gear is worth it i already had the lamp and scored the control box,lamp hold,shade for $51 on eaby so its gotta be worth it :thumbsup just thinking if my room will cope with the heat :scratchin anyways when the gear arives i will test the lamp nothing seems to be out of shape or burnt

If you are looking at a new globe then maybe you should check out conversion lamps, I think the Sunmaster is the MH version of the Son-T or Lucagrow.

yeah i spoke to a guy at my local hydro shop afew days ago before winning the auction to sus out prices on a new globe the 1000w sunmaster small jacket was $130 or sylvania also sells an enhanced red spectrum MH for $100 both were ment to have i think 3000 kelvin when i bought my first SM MH globe back in 1998 i thought the guy was talking shit to me :: i went into another shop that had a normal bulb and a SM up and running next to each other there is alot of difference im convinced they will flower
