Iemma government in cannabis crackdown

Recommended Posts

Just grow 4 fucking giant plants, no mention under 5 plants penalties have changed.

i get immune to strains pretty quickly and growing a mere 4 plants would be a total waste to me as a result :thumbdown

you also have to take into consideration keeping mother plants and any clones you have to take as well which leaves a grower with fuck all to grow :thumbdown

Yep, but the Industry has been tightly regulated so the farmers are not allowed to use what ever growth stimulants they want......unlike illegal hydro growers.

You can tell yourself that, although the sad fact is most commercial growers dont just use a standard NPK. They use large amounts of hormones and growth stimulants, and usually do very little (if any) flushing.

The result is leftover chemicals stored in the tissue of the plant......ever have a cone that tasted like sunscreen?

Haha, and you can keep beleiving that these "hormones" albeit "supetrthrive, actually work. like i said people have a fundamental flaw in BASIC plant biology theory if they beleive a plant will acheive higher potency via chemical means.

Colchicine for polyploiding is to acheive greater growth rates, not potency.

Its all genetics, "marijuana Botany" by robert C clarke is a great read, the only book on Mj ive ever had to refer to.

Any aldulterating of MJ by commercial growers is done after the plant is harvested. Ie spraying windex or mortein etc.

Dont get me started on the flushing debate..................Flushing is also for people who dont know much about plants

Even if they believe cannabis causes mental illness, how can they believe the solution is throwing people in jail????

Before our politicians goosestep behind the USA into this police state mentality why don't we look at the results the "war on drugs" has had...

Has the war on drugs coincided with the increased use of harder, more addictive and dangerous drugs than cannabis? - Yes

Has the war on drugs decreased drug activity? - No

Has the war on drugs resulted in decreased crime  - No

Has the war on drugs resulted in reduced mental illnesses - No

The bottom line is its irrelavent whether or not you believe drugs are a serious social problem that need to be controlled under criminal law.  If the net result is negative, ie the law causes more harm than the crime, then the law must be changed, or at least controlled.

Do our politicians really believe filling jails with drug offenders benefits our society?  Or do they simply not care?

I am not asking for drug law reform.  I am realistic enough to know thats not going to happen.  But lets not let them make things worse than they already are.

Yep, this is plain and simply fucked up, it's usa style and not what i thought Australia would come to.. Throwing people in jail is what they want to do by the sounds of it, isn't that where alot of the mentally ill already end up? So yeah, that's the easy answer, link MJ and Schizo and throw any small time perso growers in jail or give them a mega fine that will haunt them for life... Shit this is so wrong.. Most the points have been covered, but i heard is it Paul Dillon from the drug and alcohol research cntre (or whatever he is from) says 'dro is only 3 to 5% higher in thc than pot of the old days (dunno when they mean, the 70's?) lol...

5 is jackshit with clones, mothers and such, i can't believe this is happening.. Arghhhh. lol

Its not about potency, its those chemicals that remain in the plants tissue, and are then smoked by the consumer.

Thats more of an urban myth than anything. Not even commercial growers are that stupid. lol

I know I cant taste the chemicals if I flush it for two weeks. :smoke

As I mentioned, read "Marijuana Botany" and any other publications to do with plant biology such as a high school senior year biology text book and come back with your urban myths such as chemical tastes, What you are tasting is chlorophyll from not properly drying and curing.

Weed out hydroponics

NSW will introduce Australias first laws to distinguish between hydroponically-grown and outdoor cultivated cannabis, toughening penalties for growing the indoor crops.

Announcing the new laws, NSW Premier Morris Iemma said hydroponically-grown cannabis was up to seven times more potent than marijuana grown outside using less sophisticated techniques.

Mr Iemma said the legislation, to be introduced when Parliament resumes on February 28, will help crack down on criminal syndicates growing the drug and could reduce the incidence of mental illness among people smoking it.

Under the proposals, the penalty for growing the traditional “bush” cannabis will remain the same, while the penalty will increase significantly for the cultivation of more than 50 plants grown hydroponically.

For growing 200 or more hydroponic plants, sentencing provisions will double from a maximum 10 years to 20 years jail.

Growing 50 to 199 hydroponic plants will attract a maximum 15-year prison sentence and/or a $385,000 fine, while a crop of 200 or more will constitute a large commercial quantity, qualifying for the maximum 20-year jail penalty and/or $550,000 fine.

Both categories are presently covered by provision for a maximum 10-year sentence and/or $220,000 fine, while 1000 cannabis plants is considered a large commercial quantity.

The legislation creates new offences for cultivation only and does not impact on present possession laws.

Mr Iemma said hydroponic crops grew faster and yielded about five times more than conventional plants.

He also claimed their cultivation was predominantly the domain of organised crime.

“The research and evidence is that there is a direct link between the potent form of cannabis, hydroponically-grown cannabis, to the development of severe mental illnesses,” Mr Iemma said.

Mental Health Issues Minister Cherie Burton said one smoke of the hydroponic cannabis could bring on a mental illness.

But those claims were rejected by Sydney drug expert Paul Dillon, of the National Drug and Alcohol Research Council, who said the perception indoor-grown cannabis was a “super weed” was largely a myth.

Mr Dillon says the evidence suggests cannabis today is about 4 per cent stronger than 30 years ago.

“What we do know is that the cannabis that is grown in controlled environments appears to have much more flowering head content which is the stronger part of the plant,” he said.

“Its not like all of a sudden the plant has got a lot stronger.”

Mr Iemma said the legislation, to be introduced when Parliament resumes on February 28,
That gives those of you still growing in NSW the deadline for getting out, last one out turn off the lights please, growing in NSW is getting too risky. :shy:

Personally I don't reckon he's going to get the numbers to carry it off, but if he does some of the other states are sure to follow, if only to pick up on what Howard offers in the way of bribes.

lol
