Former pop star grew drugs

 

FORMER pop star Allison Durbin has admitted growing cannabis in her West Footscray house but has denied trafficking drugs, a court heard yesterday.

 

She pleaded guilty in Melbourne Magistrates Court to cultivating cannabis and possessing cannabis.

 

Magistrate Felicity Broughton ordered Durbin, 54, to stand trial on one count of trafficking cannabis and one count of theft of electricity.

 

She pleaded not guilty to the first charge and reserved her plea on the second. The court heard this week that Durbin, who goes by her former married name Giles, allegedly supplied cannabis to convicted drug dealer Giuseppe "Joe" Barbaro, whose daughter Montana was kidnapped in 2004.

 

Barbaro, 49, on Tuesday was ordered to stand trial on a string of drugs and other charges.

 

Durbin, who was named Queen of Pop three times in the late 1960s to early '70s, was released on her own undertaking to appear at the County Court on March 30.
