POLICE have seized cannabis worth more than $70,000 and busted an alleged father-son drug trafficking operation.

A 60-year-old North-West man and his son, aged 33, were arrested this week after raids in Tasmania and Victoria.

"We believe we have disrupted a significant source of supply of illicit drugs from Tasmania to other Australian states," Detective Inspector Matt McCreadie said.

Western Drug Investigation Services arrested the 60-year-old after locating a hydroponic cannabis crop on an Upper Natone property on Tuesday.

They seized 56 plants, valued about $56,000, 2.5kg of dry cannabis head, worth about $15,000, about 3.5kg of cannabis leaf and a hashish press.

Officers also found documents indicating drug trafficking in several other states, police said.

The man was charged with trafficking in a prohibited plant product along with other drug-related matters and firearms offences.

He was bailed to appear in court at a later date.

Investigations revealed the man's son had travelled to Victoria with a large quantity of illicit drugs, police said.

After a joint investigation involving the Victoria Police Major Drug Investigation Unit, the 33-year-old was intercepted in Victoria.

Police searched his vehicle and found 500g of cannabis, worth about $3000, 38 ecstasy tablets, amphetamines and two hashish blocks.

He appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates Court, where he pleaded guilty to a range of drug charges, including trafficking in cannabis.

He was remanded in custody pending sentencing.

Intelligence suggested he was in Victoria to sell the seized items at a "rave/dance party", police said.

Investigations into other drug matters related to the 33-year-old are continuing.

Det-Insp McCreadie called on the public to assist with drug investigations.

He urged anyone with information on drug growing or use to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 005 555.

Last time I travelled on the Spirit (admittedly it was 5 or more years go) I enjoyed a nice pipe or 3 sitting on the back end of the ship. Probably one of the best places I have smoked. Looking out over all that water.

Not sure how much it has changed now though

I went over late last year, and enjoyed a few scoobs with a dude from South Africa. There were a few bikies on there blazin up aswell

guess you guys lucked out, my grandparents who are nearly 60 years old went to tassie on a holiday and both of them had sniffer dogs all over them before they went on the ship + when they got off the ship... they were forced to let the sniffer dogs go over everything, including their caravan which took like 4 hours to setup and another 3-4 to pull down lol
