sunmaster 1100 watt MH ballast...

Recommended Posts

Hey perrye75 ,

the batten holders that hold the globes are usually rated. for a 1000 watt Usually You can run anything from 600-1500watts, it should state on the porcelin part of the batten holder. This meens yes you can run other globes MH and HPS in the same batten holder(providing they are the same size fitting), how ever running a HPS globe in a MH battast will most probably not work, (I havent tried) you will need to change ballasts, this will most definately cut the risk of a fire starting.

Ballasts are usually really only for the one size globe running a 1000 watt globe in a 1100 ballast might be ok, the best bet to be %100 sure is to ring up your local electrical wholesaler and ask, Rexel, Laurance&Hanson should give you a more exact answer. Or ultimately get intouch with SUNMASTER them selves.

This is a pretty dodgy subject and best to be %100 sure lights do get hot and start fires if not run with the proper equipment.......as is the same with all electrical gear.

thanks for the response. i actually rang sunmaster. they said short answer is yes you can run normal 1000 watt MH globes in the 1100 watt sunmaster ballast - however - not recommended because the normal 1000 wont run at peak efficiency.

the 1100 watt globes are monsters 385 par watts! but u cant get them in small jackets so i cant fit the big football ones in a horizontal reflector

yes, i think what they meen by peek eficiency, they will work but much like a light dimmer only a certain amount of electricty will be drawn giving a weeker light...

I remeber those bulbs, they give more reds for flowering, I think a normal MH 1000 will be ok but like the guy said it might be running at only 900 watts instead of the whole 1000...it will still work tho MH only its a MH ballast...nothing HPS. I think from memory I used them once and I used it straight in a normal MH ballast....

it was crap anyway, better with a 1000HPS for flowering, they were brought out when the switchable ballasts hit the market...as an alternative and not a real great one at that

If you are thinking of using it for vegetive growth i think it will be fine with a normal MH globe, make sure the globe you get can be fitted horizontal, most can go 180degrees but some dont and will burn out if improperly fitted

yeah looking to use them only for veg. ive got heaps of HPS Euro 1000 watt ballasts and globes - but they plants dont look that nice when they veg under them.

i have 600 watt conversion MH bulbs which run on 600 watt hps ballasts. there great for the early part of veg. but when when the big scrog needs filling i want to kick in all those sunmaster 1100 watt mh ballasts. so i think ill get some sylvania 1000 watt mh globes (small jackets) and kick them in. cheers
