NFT System

Just realised I have a shitload of 100mm NFT guttering out the back. Its the proper white stuff... I jacked it from my old work, they were chucking it out the back and I just remembered I had it down the shed. I have about 5x 1.5m lengths of it.

 

Will 100mm NFT Guttering be wide enough? Ill be getting some clones this week or next week, and they will have to go outdoors until I move into a place in 14 days... so I was thinking of potting them up to the 7cm rockwool blocks, then letting them root in there for a few days... then when I move in I can grow them in the 100mm NFT system.. After all, all I need for the NFT system is a large tub ($10) and a pump ($20) and theres my grow media ready. I have Canna Vega nutes, ph adjustment chemicals and everything else already.. lighting etc. All I need now is some mylar blankets But yea.. would 100mm be enough? Ill start my search on NFT systems now...

maybe if you only gave them a few days vege, any longer and they'll get crowded + rootbound which means a loss in yield :thumbdown

 

your best bet with an nft system from what i have read is to use larger cuttings and flower them straight away...with the right strain, you can pull around 1-1.5oz a plant every 8 weeks, considering how many plants an nft system can hold, thats an extreme amount of smoko in a very short amount of time

 

only drawback with an nft system is the stupid laws in our country, if you get busted with a full system, you will be totally fucked :thumbdown

Im trying to think of the best method of growing in a walk in robe. The bathroom is right next to me, but also are two other students. I only really want to veg in it. Im thinking of the best mediumless way to grow.. DWC is good, but rockwool is decent too. Ive thought of lots of methods.. looking at which is the cheapest too. I dont mind if the plants get rootbound, im just looking to take like 10 clones from each of them in 2 months time.. they wont be there for long, and the ppl work and study, so I can do res changes when they leave.

 

So far the clones are going from the small cubes to the larger 7cm or so ones, then its open from there... any suggestions welcome.

I would have to agree with Wantdachronic, NFT is an unreal system for flowering clones but for growin to take clones, probably not the best. :thumbdown

 

Personally I havent done DWC, but I would think this is the way to go, you can set up a DWC pot for about $50 at the most. they use hardly any medium, which ever you use. :scratchin and when youve done your cuttings just flower it :thumbsup

 

The one plant under a 400 would be plenty for 10 or so cuttings...

 

Those NFT channels usually have holes every 20-30cm. For flowering clones you could probably have a hole in between every hole for maximum out put. a good idea if ya want ta risk it, the yields are incredible. :whistling

Seeing as you intend to move in a couple of months or so it would probably best to just stick them in pots of soil or coco and hand water.

I can put them in buckets full of coco with holes drilled at the bottom... thats worth about $3 a bucket and I can stick two in each. But im also thinking about how easy it is to grow in whatever medium I use. Its much easier to change a res every week or more instead of growing in pots and worrying about extra water leaking out and then dispensing of that, and then there is flushing to... This is why im thinking NFT or DWC, plus I have the guttering already and a NFT system would cost me like $20 to set up.

Edit: Just checked, I have 6x 100mm NFT gutters which are 1.2m long. I could probably use three of them, build a stand for $10, buy a cheap pump from Kmart for $10 and theres my system... Plants I hope will be there only for 4 weeks, then ill rape them for cuttings, then take 2 weeks to root the cuttings, then 1 week to veg them in the walk in robe while I find an apartment, then move into the apartment and flower straight away.

 

Or I can just LST them in coco I guess... I just dont want to be walking out with extra water thats come off the plants every day.
