Police find drug crop in house fire

Recommended Posts

Police attending a house fire found about 100 cannabis plants inside and are guarding the Melbourne home.

Fire crews were called to the large two-storey house in Keilor Downs, in Melbourne's north-west, about 8.40pm (AEDT) on Sunday, Metropolitan Fire Brigade spokesman John Taylor said.

"We were there within three minutes of the call; so were the police because the station's just around the corner," he said.

Fire crews took 30 minutes to bring the blaze under control, he said.

Police at the scene found the hydroponic crop spread through several upstairs rooms.

A 36-year-old woman was being questioned about the plants.

A police spokesman said the plants had not been removed due to safety concerns relating to damage caused by the fire. The house is under police guard.

Fire crews will search the home for hot spots.

Mr Taylor said four people were home at the time. The house was extensively damaged but no-one was injured, he said.

The fire was believed to have started in an upstairs kitchen.

What that really means is the plants need another week or two before harvest :P so rather than pull em early and havea bad yield the coppers have decided to let it go full term and get a proper harvest :B):

They could have done it in 10 if they hadn't decided to go to Maccas with the munchies B)

Police are salvaging the rest of the crop for planting out the back of headquarters for "research" and drying the resin.
