does stressing the plant at the end increase yield

Recommended Posts

I guess I have to agree.....

"Warm temperatures are known to promote metabolic activity and the production of THC. Heat also promotes resin secretion, possibly in response to the threat of floral desiccation by the hot sun."

so interpreting this statement...you could say the plant sweats resin... couldnt you? I guess we are both sort of right... but of course coupled with not enough water will most certainly be disastrous.... dehydrated plants cant sweat anything, right...

I wouldnt say he was a shitty botanist.. more to the point, I couldnt understand what he was on about most of the time..me being a rookie and all. he just explained things so I could understand them with out all the scientific crap that confuses most people..... I understand things a bit better now...

resin production will increase final yield but like ya say it will be minimal if anything, and like I said every grow yields different, so who would really know if these things increase resin..or yield....more to with just a bumper grow...

also the fact that most strains are dripping in the shit any way....well the ones I grow always are... so how could you really tell???...:thumbsup

Also just on my flushing method…

I unplug the pump because the heart has been drained, no water, pump being on a timer and all

. Perlite holds heaps of moisture, I can have my pump not run for 3 days with out any problems of the perlite drying out, the roots almost always sit in the water anyway. Its my understanding that DWC works like this, doesnt it ..... the method I use gradually takes the salts down to an acceptable level.. I run my ppm at 1800, my rain water measures at 30ppm. To empty the heart and replace with fresh water gets it down to 900ppm, obviously the more times you replace the water the quicker the process will be, but the water needs to be carted and I can be a little lazy at times ... so over the 2 days it gets down to about 400ppm then I add fresh nutes... so there is always something there for them and believe me when I say, perlite traps heaps of salts..and needs to be flushed on a regular basis.... but then I do know people who NEVER flush.. not even at harvest...its why I flush.... and it seems to be affective….

heres a good pic of my room half way through flowering.... the method I use might not be the most desirable but its pretty much all I can do... there are 8 pots (the pic really only shows 6 pots tho) with 2 600 HPS 24 clones

seems to be affective what ever I am doing.... :thumbsup

You'll never get hasstled on OSA for doing things your own way mate, well, maybe you will - by people who wanna know how to do it! ;)

Lovely pics, wanna start a grow-diary up and show us how it's done from woah to go?

And in the end that's what matters neh? ;)

Thought about using a tee junction and taps on your main irrigation line to use the pump to empty out your reservoir to a drain? might make life a bit easier. You could also use a standard garden hose to move water from your rainwater tank to your grow too no? I've had to lug about 20+ 10L watering cans daily for my orchid collection before, when I didn't have a tap available, so I know how miserable it can be. :thumbdown

@eikel

heh heh, so do I... took me 1/2 hr back and forth watching the new LOST episodes to write that post.... ;)

back @ sukonmi.

those plants look lovely :reallyexcited:, but have you used horizontal shades? Those parabolics look decidedly shallow, and are rather outdated regarding reflecting usable light with as short a distance as possible. ;)

Because you're using rainwater you're getting a lot more usable nutrient to the plants as opposed to those of us restricted to tap water supply, like Perth which has a base salts level of 560-700ppm. Some strains are more salt tolerant than others, and perlite certainly does hold onto salts very, very well, which is why we like it so much really. :(

But yeah, on the sweat thing, it's not really sweating they're referring to but reflection of heat energy. Although I don't subscribe to that as oil would heat up just as well as water, and there is little evidence to suggest that hemp plants are worse off in hot climates than drug cultivars.

Yeah, every grow yeilds different, which is why the only true comparison is to have two growrooms with all other factors identical excluding one critical one. To be really effective it should be a blind trial where the grower is unaware of which plant has received this treatment, although this would present some problems. I don't know many home growers who would be willing to do this though, which means that it's unlikely to get the testing it deserves.

In short, (yeah right, in short from me, HA!) there is more than one way to skin a cat and make a coat from 'im, so whatever works for you should be fine. ;)

But I certainly wouldn't say that stressing plants, in any way, increases yeild or potency in any significant amount. ;)

I have done a grow diary, its been posted at bubblebag.com , it seems to be down for server matinence at the moment... ive posted the links b4 somewhere, but I will post them again when the site is back up... its actually a flop...but in the end the smoke is nice.. thats the decider right, yeild suffered only got 3lb.....

its a grow box 4'x8' so the parabolic shades distribute better to the corners... I had a chart that showed the distibution of light, parabolic v's batwing... and altho the batwing concerntrated better lumins towards the center the out side edges clearly suffer.. for a retangular grow, like a wardrobe.. a batwing is definately the go.. but for more even distibution in a square grow it is better with parabolic...

each light does 4'x4' and the shade are 3.6'.. so its really all shade....

ive got a hose and a drain outlet for the heart, its just way quicker to scoop out by hand.. I also have a watering can.... :;): you should see my herb garden :thumbsup

.... the hose wont reach that far... and I dont mind doing it like this.. gets the garden watered.... :thumbsup

enjoy .. :thumbsup

also you can view my best bud shots album in the gallery section....

yeah I say its a flop because, last time with the rock juice, they didnt seem to stretch as much and stayed rather short and stocky, i didnt see the need to add a screen.. my regret with this room is that I should have hit it with the rock juice about 2 weeks earlier and probably should have had a screen to support the buds... :scratchin

yeah Luke S , when I lived in the city (adelaide) the tap water was at about 700.. pretty high, I still used it with great results so there is really nothing wrong with it.. I dont even think rain water would increase yeild at all but the buds seem to glisten a lot more....and of course arent as harsh to smoke..
