A man yesterday was arrested after a lightning raid at a house in West Dubbo uncovered a suspected large amount of cannabis. A convoy of unmarked police cars sped up Leavers Street about 12.30pm yesterday and split up to storm the house from front and back. A 22-year-old male was detained by Dubbo detectives and officers from the Dubbo Intelligence Response Team (DIRT) after he dashed out the back door and attempted to scale the back fence. Upon being detained and brought into the house the man then threw a bag containing a large amount of cannabis, as well as a significant amount of cash, at police. The police proceeded to seize the goods and arrest and charge the man with possessing a prohibited drug, supplying a prohibited drug and goods in custody. The police found two other male occupants of the house who were searched and questioned while police undertook a detailed search of the premises. The suspect, who was previously known to police, was found to be in possession of over eight ounces of high-grade cannabis, with an estimated street value of more than $4,000, and over $1,100 in cash. The drugs and money were seized by police who also took into possession four mobile phones and electronic scales. Orana LAC crime manager Detective Inspector Mick Willing said the raid had occurred after police received information from numerous people regarding suspicious activity at the house. "Information had been received from members of the public that a quantity of cannabis had been supplied from that residence," he said. "A warrant was then obtained (on Tuesday) and executed (yesterday)." Detective Inspector Willing said the successful raid was one of many the DIRT unit had undertaken this year. "This search warrant follows quite a number of search warrants that we've conducted throughout the year," he said. "The DIRT unit this year has been quite successful - we've conducted an number of long-term operations, some of which haven't come to fruition, others which have." Detective Inspector Willing said the battle against drugs would continue to be a major priority for police in the new year. "All in all I'm very pleased with the effort the detectives and DIRT unit has put into the war against drugs in Dubbo this year and which is going to continue next year."
