Police discover cannabis

Recommended Posts

AN air and land search by police yesterday found almost $200,000 worth of cannabis growing near Helensburgh.

Wollongong police Chief Inspector Mick Tranby said the 96 mature plants were found growing in two well-planned, fenced crops.

The first was among thick bushland near the Red Cedar Picnic Area off Lady Wakehurst Dv.

"Polair, rescue officers and detectives located an area where 55 mature cannabis plants were growing," he said.

"The area had been well maintained with chemical agents used to grow the plants which were between 1m and 1.6m in height.

"Police estimate those plants have a potential street value of $110,000."

Police acted on information from the public to find the plants and while in the air, the Polair chopper saw a second plantation, further west in the Woronora catchment area.
