for the consumer to win mr smokey

u need to play each of those stores off against each other

there was a price war between em both 2 yrs back

only time ive seen the consumer benefit from both there inflated prices

all the best

bil

Prices are only inflated if you think they are. Money is only worth what it is because we all agree it is. Margins can seem high but in reality only allow slim operating profits for the business.

Ebay and the web based warehouse/back of the garage type shops have ruined things for the local hydro shops all across the nation, and price wars on large orders have systematically cut margins for a lot of these small businesses very significantly.

All I ask is to remember they're a business, but they don't make money out of ripping people off, they make money out of happy customers who come back. lol

That said, you'll find assholes and dickheads in any industry, this one included. Shop around, find the one that makes you happiest as a customer, not only from a $ but from a service point of view, and then support em. It's kinda amazing we have hydroponics retailers at all really. lol

buying grow shit at government auctions is bonkers IMO.

aside from the security risk, I don't want the pork/government profiting from the gear they ripped off some poor bugga they did over. fuck them. if they want to steal our shit not much we can do but fucked if I'm going to help em make money out of it as well. they can just fucking dump it as far as I'm concerned.

There's a bloke on ebay who will send stuff by courier anywhere, but he lives not too far from me, so he's cheap as chips. I'm sure he buys all his gear from auction, and punts it on, but his second hand price, for things that can be reliably bought that way are very cheap. So he wins, he isn't growing as far as I know, so he's safe, and he takes the "risk" out of the equation, . I put him onto this site actually, I've been to his place several times over the last 18 months, and I've had no backlash, so I figure he's safe.

Hell, as far as I know it could be puffin billy? I wouldn't know.

As for the better hydro shop in bris, so far as the nth side goes, greenpower at Caboolture is as good as any. At least he's no bust.

Bill, we had a hydro shop open in Redcliffe for a very short while. He used to rant about mt. druid, or some such place. he too had bulk storage in an ajoining shop. Chep pallets, boxes of crap, nothing made sense. Not a shit load of gear, but a decent amount of bottled gear. Had the very best timers and heavy duty equipment I ever saw in a hydro shop to be fair.

Then he opened his cash register and shows me a baggy of dope he reckoned a customer laid on him. That scared the shit out of me. It would have been enough you'd think, but I went back, cause the next closest store is bloody miles away, and sometimes u just want a few blocks of growdan, or just a grommet or somthin... Anyway, bugger me if he didn't pull out a baggy, maybe the same one and go through the same spiel..

Then the shop just vanishes one day. Just gone.

Man they were weird. Wonder if they were the same blokes? Always asking questions, too personal like.

cheers

Yeah he's not a bad bloke, a bit "dont wanna know" what ya growin type of thing, but then I dont want anyone to know what I'm growing either, so that suits me.

He's just put a few more fish tanks in, you know he has that little sideline of aquarium fish.

He told me last week he's up for sale if u have a lazy 50-60 thou..I reckon it has excellent potential in that spot, and he'd have that in stock I'd think. I mean you know what D Bay is all about and all, and you have all of Redcliffe. The only options growers have in those areas is Kallanga, or Caboolture. Either that or a drive into the city. Fairdinkum, drivin all that way for some small item drives me nuts.

He reckons he wants to become a "grey nomad", buy a camper and go fishin. But when u think how short a time he's been goin, and most of that time he was right down in the bowels of D Bay so deep u couldnt find him, I reckon in a short time that will be the shop to have, if one was so inclined if u know what I mean. I mean when people get used to the spot, and customer loyalty takes time especially in these types of businesses, why would people drive past D Bay to go to Caboolture, or swing out to Kallanga, and battle all that traffic?

If I were better situated with $$ I'd be onto it in a wink. I'd miss growing too much but. You can't tell I haven't been pondering on this can ya ?

cheers
