Where to in west oz

Recommended Posts

well ive read and googled and called my auntie and well im looking at a 400W hps for my first project involving indoors and pot.

i have only ever grown hydroponically outside with decent yeilds on my fruits and vegtables.

so i am now going to try dope indoors. i was just gunna go outdoors but housemates tend to be out in the pool alot so its not really a goot idea.

my room /a converted shed. is insulated and such but it still gets rather warm.

my grow space is 800*800*1800 1850 is the roof height (my room was made for hobits!!)

i can pick up from some place down on beach rd in malaga a 400W hps kit for $210 ballast shade and lamp. is this a good price and should i go for smaller/larger. i was really looking at only 250 and a smaller grow but the price isnt that bad .. in feet its only under 3*3. so with the 50W/ftsq i should be ok ya? besides im not going for an ultimate huge grow just some fun for when my holidays start in a few months.

2 plants at a time.

sides of box coverd in flat white plastic

***all measurements in millimetres.

i just wanted to be sure before i comit to buying anything. oh and if anyone know any friendly hydroshops in perth? i generaly buy all my stuff from bunnings.

Hi clon3.

As your restricted in height then you probably will grow from pots that are placed on the ground. Plus it's just 2 plants so you wont require a flood and drain table etc.

I haven't really looked/bought full lighting kits for a while but for $210 for a HPS kit, that sounds pretty good. Just make sure the ballast is separate as you don't want to purchase a light with a inbuilt ballast as they are quite heavy. No doubt there's cheaper deals on the net but then you have to use your address, credit card etc so it's much safer to always pick up the gear yourself and pay in CASH.

Bunnings is a cool place to go, so just get the specialist gear from the hydro shop (lighting, medium-especially if your going to use soil) and get the generic stuff like pots, cloning material etc from Bunnings as they are usually much cheaper than hydro stores.

I know you said the shed is insulated but as you didn't mention the exact specifics maybe you could try additional shading with a tarp or if it's feasible get one of those 'whirly bird' things attached on the roof of your shed that will remove the heat from roof level.

Goodluck with grow :yingyang .

yeah i am looking into those whirly bird things there are a few at work i might be able to knock the price down a bit on them and possibly get one. they seem quite efficiant. i already installed a decent exhaust fan in the ceiling just earlier tonight that is just vented up to a flu.

I highly recommend Isabellas hydroponic nursury in wannaroo.. they are pretty cheap and she can hook you up with knowledge, and when she gets to know u maybe even more knowledge :devilred: Ive been going there for over a year constantly, and over 5 years total.. and shes brilliant. Get a 430w Son-t-Agro HPS LIGHT from NUTRIFLO - kits start at 200, but for a decent shade/kit/postage its like 250! I buy everything from nutriflo pretty much now, they are really good suppliers. http://users.bigpond.net.au/nutriflo/

A 430w would light that area perfectly. Make sure you get decent ventilation, and odour control is a big factor when you want to start growing decent strains, personally I think odour control is a must. In flower those babies are gonna stink bad trust me. Also if you dont have rent inspections definately do a scrog grow with a net and just train ur buds through it. What genetics are u going to start with if you dont mind me asking?

Alot of people install them.. and they are decent. But.. alot of kids smell out grows if you dont have a carbon filter installed and having a house of stinky pot and a whirly bird on ur roof gives them enough signs of trying to rip you off. Ventilation is a big factor when growing.. keeping room temps down in perth summer, esp 40C days is a big problem unless you have decent airflow and/or cooling. For my next grow ive bought a bonaire water cooler to stick in the room for air flow (fan on low) and then when hot days come, or if i need extra humidity in the room ill stick it on evaporative air conditioning mode. Paid $120 out of the quokka for it. Or they are like $300 new i think.
